Cool. 3 more to add to the list when they come out.

I wonder if they improved the shape of those handles. The Crucial and I didn't get along very well in the ergonomics department...not that the notion will affect my adding one to the shelf queen fleet.
A little Leatherman information.

I dunno, I think the Balance and Fit look much more interesting.  I'm still wondering why I'd want an assisted blade on an MT...

Cheers for the link.  While I've got to say neither the Crucial nor the Balance do much, if anything, for me, the Fit certainly looks interesting. :tu:

I like the idea of a compact tool with assisted opening.  On a big tool like a PowerAssist, I thought it was sort of dumb, but with a tool the size of a Crucial, it makes it even more pocket knife-like.  The Crucial FAST clears up a few other lingering issues with the Crucial...fantastically getting rid of that stupid folding carabiner and the inneffective drivers.  Handle shape doesn't appear to be any different, but the G10 seems pretty cool.  I hope the blade steel isn't crap.

The Fit still seems like a dandy little item, and with the revelation of the two micro driver blades really makes this a geeky little tool.
Half-ass done wholeheartedly!

I hadn't thought about the fact it's got better looking drivers, that'll certainly make a difference from the original Crucial.  I still think the Balance is fugly though. :D

I think the black handle is just a little bit larger, for accommodating the new spring mechanism maybe ?

I will seriously consider getting a crucial f.a.s.t. if the price is close to the same. G-10 sounds like it could add a lot to the price of the tool.  Anyone heard what the price is going to be on this model?  Hopefully Gerber will do like last year with the release of the tools.  I got an octane a week or so after the SHOT show.  That was great release timing.

No way it's G10, that guy's credibility went down the crapper right after he claimed G10 is 10 times stronger than aluminum (that must be why it's called G10, right? ::)). From the way the piece look it's just molded piece of plastic with some texture. Besides Gerber isn't exactly known for high end material.

The catalogue states that the handle is G10

That would be a lot of fancy machining for G10, coming from a company that known to use cheapest material around I won't believe it till I see it.

I dunno about that.  You can find G10 on $7 chinese knives.  Not machined terribly well mind you, but G10 nonetheless.  It doesn't have to be really high quality.

I wouldn't have thought G10 to be a particularly valuable material...  I admit some knives are much more attractive with G10 than say Zytel.   ::)

I for one rather liked the Karabine and found it rather useful as it fitted my Harness loops nicely,

But if it had to go to make way for better drivers I'll agree it was the right thing to do.

G10 is a resin laminate of zytel/FRN.  Essentially micarta but made from zytel/FRN instead of canvas/denim/paper.

It's not a particularly valuable material, but it does take more time to make, machine and cut.  The positive is that it retains the toughness, chemical resistance and temperature change resistance of FRN, but since it's made up of many layers instead of a uniform pour it's easy to put a good grippy texture on G10 with machining.

Just noticed that the Fit has tweezers :)  Depending on where they are, maybe a pen wouldn't be so hard after all...

Also wondering how hard it would be to get the innards from an ITP EOS A3 or similar into that thing to get multimode for the light.

Dammit, at this rate I'm going to get one :/
