This idea sounds great and I thing a multitool.org multi would be great.  Is there a date in the future (as this is only a new forum) like the 6 month annerversity that we could plan (there will be hic-ups) to get the tools ready for then?

At this point we are kinda just brainstorming ideas, and trying to guage interest.  It's a little too early to set a date for anything, but I'll make certain everyone knows about it!

Travis has a few ideas he is working on and is just trying to figure out the most feasable options.  We also have another option that might also prove interesting.  At this point it's hard to say which way we are going to go with it, but the good news is that we may be doing a constant tool rather than a one-off like we do in SOSAK every year.  That means that provided we hit the minimum order size (I think it's 12) then we can get additional tools made afterwards without having a minimum per order.  The great thing about that is new members won't miss out, and if existing members didn't get one for whatever reason (or want another one) they should be able to get them any time!

Hopefully we should have some more info soon.

I don't think we'll have any problems hitting the minimum of 12 :)  Thanks for the update.

No problem... I know it's been a bit quiet lately, but trust me, Travis and I (especially Travis) are working on this one night and day!

Feel free to ask any time you are wondering where we are at!

We are still working on a few ideas... as soon as anything solid materializes we'll announce it.

With Christmas and everything alot of things got bumped back, but I assure everyone that this project is indeed moving.

I know that this is something that really has me excited. I am hoping that there ris something in the works still and count me in on it. I really dont care what tool it is, but I really hope it is a Name brand.

I promised to keep you up to date on this, and so I am letting you all know where we are at currently.

Since this has begun we have explored numerous options.  Here is where most of them are currently.

We had a very promising, very inexpensive, name brand model available to us that we were planning on etching with the Multitool.org logo, but the type of steel it is made with seems to be causing issues with the etching process.  Because of the small pricetag on this model, we were planning on offering it first, to "test the waters" so to speak.  There are a few more things that can be tried with this one, and I am waiting on the final word.  This one will sell for about $50 US.

The same proceedure can be done on another multitool, which is unfortunately somewhat more expensive initially.  The processing would cost about the same, but it is widely regarded as a nicer tool.  Unfortunately, this one looks like it would sell to members at about $70 US.

The next option is another, respectable tool that very few of us have, but many would be interested in, and we could probably get this one in the $70 range too.  This one would be done completely out of our hands, and we'd be shipped the final product, and we'd have to hope it was right.  The benefit of this one is that once the company has our logo setup, they could do any number of additional products for us without charging an additional Setup fee (usually around $50) for anything else we wanted.  We would have to have a bare minimum of 15 tools ordered in advance.

Another option that came to my attention recently is a newer model available from another manufacturer, which has several options, both running at about the same price.  There are a few possibilities, but we could also be looking at custom colors that would be done for Multitool.org members only, making this a truly unique piece, and something definately worth being proud of.  I haven't worked out the pricing on this model or these options yet, but we are looking at $100 or so, but since the MSRP on this tool is over $100, it wouldn't be too expensive by comparison.

We are trying to keep all tools under the MSRP, which admittedly is considerably more than one would pay for these tools in "street value" but we feel that's a good goal to look at for a special offering.

Additionally, we are only looking at quality, name brand tools which keeps the cost a little bit higher.  We could get cheap knockoffs and junk, but I sure as heck don't want my name on it any more than you guys would want something like that in your house or collection.  I want folks to agonize over whether they are going to use these tools or not, and so they have to be use-worthy!

Lastly, while we will end up taking advance orders for any/all tools we offer, the plan is to have them available at all times.  Which means new members can get one in six months, anyone who likes it so much and wants to get one for a friend for Christmas can get one, whatever the reason, we want to have enough to offer them on a continuous basis.  To encourage advance ordering though, there will likely be a discount or something similar offered to members.  We haven't gotten quite that far with it yet, and we'll work out those details when the time comes.

Now, if anyone has any comments, wants to state their preference for any of the above, or has any other ideas, now would be a good time to mention them because (at least) one of these ideas (dunno which yet!) will be taking off very soon.

We'd never forget you! :P

Seriously, being a "foreigner" myself (Canada, in case anyone missed it!) I insist on dealers and advertisers that ship internationally.  Which is probably why we have so few advertisers! :P

But, at least you know you have the cream of the crop! :D

Any way you decide to go is really OK with me, and  only will have reservations on the 100$ tool, but most likely would get it.

Any way of knowing what the tools are? :D

Well, I really would like to see a quality tool to be used.  We are multitool.org if we use chinese junk what would people think .:)  I have no problem with $100 for a tool provided it is a good one.  What do you have in mind?  Also I wonder if we can get our "screen names" on the tool.  I think it would be cool.

With any luck we will have a prototype to show everyone as early as next week.  If all goes well (and how often does that happen? :P) we will start taking orders.
