Canada's Worst Driver, Season 6, Episode 6
on: December 16, 2010, 07:47:35 PM
Here's an interesting one for you.  On a Show called Canada's Worst Driver, where they take people who can't drive and try to teach them how, they did a segment on backing up a trailer.  To illustrate the dangers, they showed a nice animation of what not to do.

To illustrate jackknifing, they showed the car (in this case, the brand new Camaro they bought for this season, which was almost completely destroyed in the first episode) backing up a trailer and jackknifing it.  They then superimposed a jackknife over the car and trailer to show why it's called that.

The jackknife in question was a Leatherman Crater, and I believe is a c33x, but could be really any of the c33 versions.

I think this is the first time we've seen a Leatherman used for this kind of purpose!

Nice find/catch!  :tu: I would probably have used another knife since I would consider this knife a Lock back but it still gets the thought through about what the term "Jack Knife" means when applied to driving a vehicle.

I don't think most folks think about knife types that closely- if it folds, it's a jack knife to many people.  Still, I wonder how they got a Leatherman knife to do this job.  I don't see them as being too common, and I would have thought an old buck knife would have been a more readily accessible prop.

And in case anyone wants to see what the Camaro looked like at the end of the show...

C33x definately! :2tu:

The show has bought a bunch of old cars that get wrecked on a regular basis, and viewers complained they didn't want to see classic cars destroyed any more.  So, they bought a brand new Camarothis year, intending to sell it at the end of the season.  They did manage to sell it, but I doubt they got what they paid for it!  The front bumper was a victim of front end swing and was torn off by a concrete barrier on the first day.  In fact, the woman driving it was about to proceed to the next section of the course when the host stopped her and tore it off, since it was hanging on by just a couple pins on one side.  When a guy can tear your bumper off with his hands, it's a bad situation!

Most impressive to me, as I said, was that they used a Leatherman Crater.  It seems like an odd choice to me since they really aren't all that common, and this isn't likely one of those places that Leatherman has sponsored to have their product used.  And, I don't think I have ever seen a knife or tool used on the show before, although I really only started watching it last season.
