Thanks J-sews for posting that letter. It is so helpful to me as I have got very limited info from Buck. It seems no one at the factory knows much of the history on the BuckTool, so I am trying to glean as much info as I can, and this is the best place I can find for info.
Thanks All of you for helping me in my quest.

Amici,
Just how well did the Bucktool perform at tasks? Although I never did handle or use one, they do remind me of the old SOG Paratools that are still in use today.

Cheers,
Serge

Nice score. Those are hard to find. Interesting that the logos are are different sizes. May be they were done different years. Unfortunately there is no way to tell what years they were made, at least not that I know of. Thanks for showing.

Ooooh, very nice Allan! 8) So how is your entire Buck collection coming along? Any more that you are still on the lookout for? :)

Random question: I wonder why Buck never did a black oxide BuckLite? ??? They did the 360 and 350 in BO, but not the 355..? :-\

Sweet! :tu: Yeah, those BO Mini Buck's don't come along very often (although when they do the price usually isn't very high) I'll keep an eye out for you. :)

As regards the Harley version...seems like I read recently about a member here who has TWO of them... ;) :D

I have been adding to my BuckTool display. As usual every time I get a new tool I notice a new variation.
Buck came out in their 2000 catalog with the 360 BuckTool with a lanyard loop as the standard model. The previous 1996 through 1999 standard 360 had a #2 Phillips in place of the lanyard loop. The 2000 catalog also had the new model 360CM camo BuckTool.
I have had a 360CM camo for some time now,I recently got a good buy on another 360CM. I got to looking at the 2 of them and I noticed one has a lanyard loop the other has the 2D Phillips. The 2000 Buck catalog show the 360CM as having a lanyard loop. Both of the handles are stamped with the Phillips icon.

Standard 360 with lanyard loop from the year 2000 catalog.

360CM camo variation with Phillips #2 and with  Lanyard loop

Phillips with Phillips icon.

Lanyard loop with Phillips icon.

My latest acquisition a 360CM in a blister pack. This is the first i have seen of this variation of blister pack. My other 360CM came in boxes.

New in the blister pack! :o Looks like you got another nice one TL :tu:  I'll check mine when I get back home and see if it has the phillips, or the lanyard loop.

Necrothread revival  :)

I have been buying a few different BuckTool 360's recently (with/without nail slots, files, H-D, DLC etc) so I thought I should have a closer look at the one I've had for a while, so I did.  I think I may have a different variant:

This one has conventional nail nicks in both CE and SE blades (ie LM style, not the usual BuckTool slots that go all the way through the blades in the later ones, nor the total absence of anything in the earlier versions).  It has the old style pliers with the extra lug that touches the handles when open.  These nail nicks look totally professional as if that's how the blades were made originally (definitely not a crude home brew modification).

Has anyone else ever seen a BuckTool 360 with regular nail nicks (not slots) ?

Thanks for the wake up message gregozedobe. Been gone awhile as the mother board in my computer died so I have to use other computers. What a pain and some of my info is gone. Plus some thing happened to my PhotoBucket and all my pictures seem to be missing. Hope to get a new computer soon.
The 360 BuckTools with crescent ground Nail Nicks were made for LL Bean. LL Bean customers said they liked the BuckTool how ever they complained the blades were to hard to open with no Nail Nicks so Buck ground crescent Nail Nicks into the blades to fill the order. After that order the new BuckTools had the "hole" nail nick. Not sure of the quantity made but it is a low number. Ironically I caught one recently on the bay, after 4 years of fishing.

Welcome back  :tu:

And thanks for the LL Bean info ( a fount of knowledge about BuckTools as usual  :salute:  )

I thought it amusing that I've only just started to collect 360 variants and I had a rare one all along  :D

Any others I should keep an eye out for ? (besides the ones in your helpful list)

Get that new computer organised and don't be a stranger   :)

Welcome back Longbow  :tu:
Its been a while.

Any new additions??

As for me... I'm still searching for the 360 variations namely B/O & Camo. They are getting harder to find, especially here in the UK!!

Looking at my black Bucktool 360 I'm inclined to think the black finish is actually DLC not BO (DLC seems smoother and harder/more durable).

Camo 360's are definitely in short supply, but the black 360's seem a little more common (but still expensive) on ebay.com.
