A volt stick  :tu:
A handy bit of kit if you ever have anything to do with wires
It will test that a wire is 'live'
But you have to understand its limitations  :pok:
it won't work through metal and can give false readings by picking up stray inducted voltages  :ahhh
And test on a known live before use  :pok:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fluke-LVD2-Voltage-detector/dp/B000R7ZA1K/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1297880991&sr=8-3

Good luck :dwts:

What I should have suggested is test the cable then get the apprentice to touch it
If he starts break-dancing there's a problem  :ahhh

Hmmmm ... lets see........

Petzl e+lite emergency head torch
Fenix lantern diffuser (for my PD20)
Buff headwear
Fox 40 micro whistle
Nicotine mints (if you are a smoker - in case end up in a situation where you can't smoke for an hour or three)
Travel toothbrush
Hairbrush/comb
Painkiller
Duck Tape / mini sewing kit
Gloves (even if it's warm)

I carry much more, but these are things that I'm surprised more people don't carry (or something that does a similar job) - the other stuff like engineering charts, scientific calculator, keyring floatation devices, WD40 & firelighting equipment (oddball stuff) I can understand  :D

Another item I should mention is my pager , it goes everywhere with me and sits on my bed side table at night . It works on VHF marine band and even has voice over on channel Zero when it goes off , which is handy if info is to be passed direct to the team . Get some funny looks when it goes off as its quite loud and then voices start coming out of my belt

Really agree with that one. I picked the handkerchief thing up from my grandfather when I was still in high school.

Easily my most used piece of EDC gear everyday. Those really cold mornings when hunting always got to me and I always had to borrow one from my grandfather. Maybe its possible that I am still so young that I am still a snot-nosed punk kid.

And besides the obvious, I always have a rag handy that I dont care much about. Its really useful for saving your hands when grabbing sharp or hot objects.

+1,000,000 on this idea. IMO its just as handy/more handy than a pocket knife. Men have carried knives for years, and what else did they carry, always? A HANDKERCHIEF!!!

I'm another big fan of the pocket handkerchief, I'm rarely to be found without one. :tu:

Bandana in my left front pocket every day, no matter what. Along with a comb of course.

Anyone else always have a comb? My EDC is an Unbreakable.

My dad always had a pocket knife, comb, bandana or handkerchief, wallet, and keys. Of course I carry all of that and more. Of course nobody had cellphones, iPods, earbuds, pliers multis, or truly useful pocket size flashlights back then.

One thing I've just starting carrying is a bit of rubber cut from a bike inner-tube.  Makes for an excellent bit of tinder and will work either wet or dry.

A few days ago I saw an episode from Ray Mears (I think it was called Ray Mears / Jungle Fire Lighting ) on YouTube and he gave the same advice, so one piece of inner-tube is going in my edc pack  ;).

Exactly where I got it from (though I saw it a while back) tested it and found it to be perfectly true. :)

It's boring, but important to me, i guess.  I always carry a microfiber cleaning cloth...one of the little square ones?  I use it all the time to clean my phone screen, glasses, watch face, computer screen, and (oddly enough) works well on xray film.  Anything really that gets smudged up.
I have been recently diagnosed with ADOSS... Attention Deficit OH SOMETHING SHINY!

I've carried a bit for a while - I use it to keep a P31 style can opener closed  :)

Realised I didn't have a sewing kit but managed to resist temptation when I looked at the one Glorn mentioned. Instead I went for this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280630810219&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

A little bit of customising and I should be sorted. Not bad for £1.40 :tu:

I carry two tablets of this in my wallet. When you have heartburn from eating pizza or whatever there is simply no improvised solution, it's literally a life saver.

Oh and a Feather #23 surgical blade in its sterile foil pack.

Well, i`m curious if anyone carries a ladder in his pack?
I do :D
My selfmade 17g rope-ladder is 2,3m long and helps getting over lots of stuff. Add a "skyhook" and climb any wall with ease.
I dont edc it in my wallet though but in my daypack which is most often with me.

Pics to come.
