My paratool is loose
on: March 01, 2011, 06:59:17 AM
I just picked up a used paratool and the thing is a an absolute rattletrap. The pliers are so loose that if I hold the tool level the pliers will partially deploy under gravity. Do I just need to tighten down the screws that attaches the pliers head to the handles to fix this? Thanks.

Figured it would be that simple. I'm just a bit shy on working on multitool after I messed up fixing a problem on a gerber mpt.

  • When in doubt, use a bigger hammer.

I think SOG multi's, or at least some of them, are meant to be adjusted by the user.
Leathermans, Victorinox, Gerber, etc' are harder to modify because they use special screws and other things that make tinkering difficult without special tools.

You'll need thread adhesive before tighten it up, get the blue one. Might as well shop on SOG's multi-tools' accessories to add your personal flavors. I outfit my second Paratool with stuffs that suits my requirement better. All in one tiny package and weights about 10 OZ..

Amici,
I picked up the companion wrench set along with some additional specialized blades many years ago from SOG when i first picked up my paratool. I agree, I think they made it with the users comfort in mind when it came to the tightness of the tool.

Cheers,
Serge
