A Wenger tale. My S557
on: March 02, 2011, 07:38:43 PM
As long timers will remember, in November of 2009, I was testing corkscrews when my Wenger S557 corkscrew bent.  I sent the tool in for warranty repair, and they sent back a new tool in an S557 box.  (I will post pics of the box and tool later tonight when I get home).

Today, I pulled it out to use the alligator wrench and I couldn't find it!  (The alligator wrench  :ahhh)

I was completely befuddled.  Slowly it dawned on me that they had put a different knife in the S557 box (an S52 I think).

So, I called Wenger and spoke with Liz.  Turns out, they keep all the repair/warranty contacts on file and she looked it up.  At first, she told me my original knife was probably discontinued.  I said, "Nope.  3 versions on your website (Evo, Evogrip and Evowood)".  Then she looked into the records, and shyly asked if I would be willing to send this tool back with attention to her  and she'd take care of the problem.

I said, not a issue, I'll send it right out.

I will be updating this story.  :salute:

Here's the mislabeled box and the tool in question.  One layer should have an inline phillips driver and the alligator wrench.  Clearly, it's missing.  >:(

An honest mistake perhaps but still annoying.  :-\

At the rate they crank these things out, it seems like there would be a whole bunch of them out there mislabeled like that.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Update:

I did receive (what I believe is) an automatic "You need to pay $3.00 per knife shipping charge".  In response, I basically said, "Check with (Name withheld). I suspect she'll waive the charge".

Today, this arrived in the mail  :mail:

Thank you Wenger!  Excellent service, as usual.  :salute:

Nice story, but I can't believe you objected to a $3 shipping charge given the timeframe of the total transaction.

I dunno, I think I'd object on principle, not Nate's fault they'd sent him the wrong SAK. :)

Glad they got you sorted out mate. :tu:

I see it has the bloquage de lame  :tu: Any fromage frais with that?

$3 is still $3. I'd rather be in my pocket than their's. While they resolved things quickly it was ultimately their error.

Well done Wenger  :salute:

Nice to hear Wenger took care of you.

Just curious though, what was the task you needed the alligator wrench for in the first place  ???

Tightening bolts on a deck chair.

A lot of times I use an Atwood, but the Poltergeist doesn't have the right sized wrench on it.
