When did Gerber buy out Superknife?
on: April 18, 2011, 12:37:09 AM
I was just browsing Gerber's website when I noticed that their utility Edge knives are 100% dead ringers for Superknives.  When I checked Superknife's website, I notice that they are now owned by Gerber/Fiskars!  When did Gerber acquire Superknife?
This is called a Swiss Army Knife. Do you know what Switzerland is? Switzerland is a place where they don't like to fight, so they get people to do their fighting for them while they ski and eat chocolate. - Larry David

Absolutely.  I've been using mine for almost 10 years now.  They're the original folding utility knife that uses those replaceable contractor blades.  Here's their website:

ah, I see. I've only ever seen/used knockoffs of that design. They always sucked lol. If they are good then hopefully Gerber doesn't do to them what they've done to their own line...

I have one - it's one of the original rubberised ones which had a screw holding the blade in - real PITA to change it. Good to see they've gone for a quick change version now.

It seems to me it has been a couple years. I am pretty sure I saw something a year ago.

is the Superknife a large improvement over the average "Husky" knife at Home Depot?

Yes and know. Super knife makes all types of models and there best are amazing. They open one handed very smooth and have a solid liner lock for one handed closing. The quick change works well also. Almost all of their tools open smoother than the husky version but some are a pain to switch the blade.
