My very first Wenger

Hi mates!

I lost my Victorinox Cadet (and my Surefire E1B) about 2 weeks ago, and now that I realized it is very unlikely to find them anywhere I have not looked by now, I decided to get replacement. I´m not sure what light to get, but I was sure to get a new Cadet. So I went to the local store, and there I saw them: WENGERS. Wenger is quite an exotic brand here, even if we are a close neighbour to Switzerland, Wenger are hard to find. I handled some before, from friends and at exhibitions, but never owned one, as far as I can remember (maybe one of the many SAKs I lost as a child was Wenger). I tried them, and got a Classic 66 for my new EDC. I really like the weight and bladeshape. It has the can- and bottleopener I wanted as one combined tool. I´m not sure how good it will work, but I will give it a try.

Guess I will get a new Cadet some day, but for now I really like my first Wenger   :D

Here we go: I used one of my favorite SAK, the Vic Executive for size comparison. Just quick and dirty shots, I will make better pictures and write a review on the knife.

Congrats on your first Wenger, an unusual one at that. :tu:  I'm a big fan of Wenger's blade shape as well, though less so of their combo tool I'm sorry to say.  The saw's excellent though, every bit as good as a Vic one as far as I can tell.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.
Merit Badges Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Delemont SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. I like that!  Wish that opener were an option in the US, I'd love to give it a go...

I need it as a bottle opener most often, so I guess it is OK. It just has to be better than the combotool on my Juice SC2, and even that really bad opener works in the very few cases I need it.

They'll open a bottle for you just fine IIRC, it's just cans they struggle with.  Even then you wouldn't starve, you'd just have to be patient. :D

You could always just go for a PLumberjack for the Victorinox equivalent of the knife. :tu:

I love Wenger SAK's. However of all the used Wenger knives I have owned/handled I have seen quite a few of the 1 or 2 layer models with that combo tool where it has failed by bending backwards through the springs area. Actually it causes the rivet ti fail and then it comes apart enough the combo tool slips in-between the springs/layers. Could be it was just abused but I have seen it on at least 3 different knives so it must be a design flaw.  :-\

I have not really tried to use the can opener part but it looks like it will pierce pretty well.  :tu:

Yes Wenger do not have so many distributor, I'm leaving 50km from the Wenger factory and even in shop we only find vic sak !
This is a shame because Wenger knife are very nice (especially the scissors that I prefer on Wenger than Victorinox).

When I'm not at work (where I use a Vic Swisstool), I EDC a Wenger EvoWood, I really like it because the wood make a other feeling than a normal plastic scale:

I don't really agree about Wenger scissors, but they have their pluses in a few situations.  I really like the EvoWood scales though. I think they are actually a bit thinner than the plastic evo scales... but maybe I'm dreaming.  I don't really like the plastic evo on 65 or 85mm at all, but the new Mike Horn feels pretty good, not as good as the 120mm one though.

My first Wenger was a Standard Issue. I got a few of them. I dont think i will get any more though. Wenger just doesnt appeal to me much. I like the bail on it. Everyone says the blade can shut on it but ive made my self aware of it and havent done it yet. Also i found by attaching a lanyard that the lanyard hangs down and pulls the bail out the way  when your holding it so you cant shut the blade on it.
