I'm mad at my KF4
on: April 24, 2011, 08:10:35 PM
It not only bit me!    But the small screwdriver I was using on it to do some maintenance on Revi (my beloved bicycle for those of you who don't know  :D :D ) and the smurfing thing kept folding up...I wasn't using a lot of torque either!  Because of this, not only did it bite me, but it kept slipping up resulting in a rather colorful collection of blood blisters and scrapes on my hands...and...now it's all scratch up and dented!!   :ahhh :ahhh

Locking tools are the only way to go most of the time.

Sorry to hear your KF4 abused you in such fashion.  :(

This is my biggest complaint with Juices.  The flat drivers are just treacherous.  Even worse if you use the tool a lot and the pivots start to become stiffer.

Generally I have a SAK along for flat driver duty, and avoid the Juice flat drivers completely.  That said, the diamond coat file on the Kf4 is just

That diamond coat file is tops, I agree.  The one on my pulse is still one of my most used tools, even when the pulse is in the bag and not on the belt.

Ok i better ask this, What exactly is a diamond coat file? Is it just the diamond pattern or is the actual surface coated with a thin layer of diamonds ???

The latter. a coating of industrial diamond chips, sized for the coarseness desired.  It's an awesome file (but you do need to use it properly or you'll strip off all the diamond coating)

I stay far away from the flats on my s2. Everytime I try to even open them I get abused. I've carried so much for it and it shows little love it return. Must be going through its teenage years. :D sorry to hear that Kelly. :(

That's exactly why I have second thaughts on MT's without locking tools....

ME too I got bit a couple of weeks back myself from my kicks phillips folding on me while trying to loosen a strippped screw.

Got me to totally change my view on locking tools.

And the flats were what got me to stop carrying my kf4.

that and the stumpy phillips, but I though they are so thin ans sharp, what use is it to carry them. Thats when I decided to try a skeletool only I cant seem to score one at a decent price, so I upsized when I got a new wave w/ pocket clip the other thing the juice is missing.

I really hope these new clipped models take off so big that lm adds clips to all their tools.

That is a small screwdriver?  :o I thought it was combo chisel/awl tool!

I've cut myself on the one in my Juice several times...

I am no longer mad at my KF4.  It's still an awesome little tool...the serrated blade is my favorite tool on it and while the drivers are sharp at all get out, they are very very effective.  I just wish they were a little tighter or locked so they wouldn't fold up like that.  My poor little tool got scratch up a bit, but it's got character now.  :)  It was a bloody battle with the bike, but we won so it's all good. :)

Yes, yes. Light pressure, let the diamond chips do the work.

Although, if one tries to file a diamond, the diamond always wins...

For me this is the crossover point where I worry less about being careful for the tool, and start thinking more about using the tool to get the work done.

It's nice when circumstances out of my control do a really good job of stifling my "pretty tool" OCD... :twak:

Kf4 is a great tool, you just have to understand the limitations of the drivers.  I'll be honest and say I rarely use them on mine since they're so short but they're okay in a pinch.  I do regularly use both blades, the awl and the diamond file, though.

In fact, after driving halfway around town looking for someone to sharpen my Micra I broke down and used the diamond file to do it.  Worked like a charm.
