Larger SRM Blades
on: April 01, 2011, 05:28:52 AM
Anyone have any?  Opinions?  I now have a 710 and just got my 763 today.  Love them and they are great, but I'm looking for something a little...bigger.  I saw on their site they have larger, but was wondering if anyone had used/held some and what their opinions were?  I'd like something more the Endura size.  so far I like the 763, but wish it had just a bit more weight to it and was larger.

Thanks

A lot of the larger SRM knives have been discontinued for some reason or another.  Been/Enlan's line of knives is supposed to be pretty good, and most of their stuff is on the larger side.

The impression I have (I said impression….) is that most of the larger knives are now unpopular in China due to legal reasons, so SRM is stopping their production.

They do, however still seem to be making some, or just have some in stock.

Now, I do not have an Endura so I don’t really know how big a knife you want; I have not seen any really big SRM knives.

I have some of their 9** series and they do feel better in my hands than the smaller ones, though they are actually branded Land, rather than SanRenMu.

They are all as good as the smaller ones, decent build and finish, just slightly more expensive.

If you are willing to expand a bit, into a few more of the “good quality Chinese made” knives then you may find more knives to your liking.

As it was pointed out Bee/Enlan, advertised now through the SRM site, still makes larger knives, with the EL-01 being quite popular.

Also Navy and Ganzo offer larger knives, and are marked as having 440C steel. They are, however more expensive, nearly 3 times the cost of the SRM 710.

Navy makes larger blades, but to me, Ganzo has a better “quality” feel.

As seen in the pictures their handles are about the same, so they are all similarly comfortable to hold, even though their blade size is different.

there dont seem to be many larger folders on there site but i should have my 710 today and if i like it i might go for the T01A next as like the belt cutter, and then i might go for the 738 as like the 710 but with carbon inserts on the handles, they do seem to have a good range of knives,

Hey dks, is the bottom one on the last pic a CS Spartan or a SRM/Bee/Enlan rehash?

Man, if you wanted a 962 you should've started looking 6 months ago.  They were discontinued before Christmas and are just stupid, stupid rare now.
The best alternative right now is the Enlan EL-02 which also uses an Axis lock, but has shaped black micarta handle scales instead of the polished blue/black.

Its still on sanrenmu's site

http://sanrenmu.com/en/foldingknives/product/22.php#

I know, but try actually finding one at a distributor.

Edit:  Scratch that, there seems to be a bunch up on eBay, but the price has been rather heavily inflated.  Really good knife if that's what you want, but you're going to be paying for it now.

What would you consider inflated?  Think I saw one for $20.00 on ebay.  Is that bad?   Though the one on ebay is an MC-962.  is that the same?

Same knife, but the going price for the 962 when it was in production was about $14 shipped, so yeah, $20 + shipping is inflated.  However, there is a demand for the 962 so I'm not surprised the price has gone up since it's now discontinued.

They used to be about 12 dollars, including shipping (maybe they were on special?). I got 2 some time ago, one to use, one to keep, like I usually do.

The Enlan is about 16 dollars with shipping now.

For that money you may want to look at Ganzo too, the 704 feels like a better made product, very smooth, feels solid, but... it does have a bead blasted finish, that is easier to rust.

So, I finally got my 962 in the mail and love it!  Wish I could have found one that was blue/black instead of just black, but oh well.  Its my current edc and fits my hand pretty well.

Here are a few shots for size comparison with my other two SRMs

Sweet knife.  I'm not a super huge fan of the axis lock, but in any case that is a very nice knife, especially for the price.  SRM knives are just great.

Yeah, I'm not a big axis lock fan either.  I'd rather have a liner lock that is easier to close w/one hand.

 :mail:  :ahhh   :ahhh

just in, well, not as much bigger than i thought, but ok, feels nice in the hand, flips out easy, i would say the 710 is a little better made but similar, the SS slabs on the 710 are thicker so the L03 feels a little lighter in the hand, at this sizes i might of also like a clip on it but i might mod one , cool knife  :tu:
