That would really suck.  I have been hurt but not that bad.  The 2 worst things that ever happend to me when I was a kid were.  I once stepped on a broadhead and got 13 stitches for that.  I also punctured my knee on a concrete slab corner and I had some meat hanging out of my knee from inside that I had to push back in before I taped it up.  It was kind of weird, there was water in there and that came out first before the blood.  Kind of shocking. :o

I had an accident that could have crippled me for life- I hit the ground the same way Christopher Reeve did when he was thrown from his horse, only I was thrown from a bike whose front wheel felt it was better off going solo.

Tore up my face, shoulder and chest pretty bad, wrenched my neck and stunned me for a second.  I don't remember getting up but I must have since the first thing I remember was walking around, picking up pieces of bike.

When I stepped on the broadhead I was just worried about my mom.  She had new carpet put in a few months before and I was trying not to bleed on it.  I ended up having a good pool in the bathroom and trying to keep steady going down the hall I left a string of bloody handprints on the wall but none on the carpet.  When my mom just looked at me and asked what was wrong, I told her that I needed to go to the hospital. :)  My knee was pretty bad but I never went to the doctor (I was afraid of needles and I did not want to get a shot) Today that knee does not ever hurt but the other sure does and I dont remember doing anything to that.

Def, picking up bike pieces while in a state of shock is kind of common.  My cousin got a concussion and ended up driving his 4 wheeler back to the garage and washing it off before he packed up his hunting clothes and jumped back on the ATV with the shovel.  He buried his hunting clothes for some reason.  It was not until later that day when his mother noticed that somthing was wrong, and she took him to the ER.

On my first big motorbike accident I did the same, I was walking in the middle of the road with to broken toes, and broken heel bone, and cracked ribs picking up bits of smashed mirrors and indicators ::)

Yeah he's doing ok actually.

Got a rod in each leg, a plate in his left arm and he's having loads of ops on his knees to get them working again.

He's not letting it get him down though!  :)

It is kind of strange how our youger in life pleasures usually bring us pain at middle to later in life stages.

Too true. I broke my arm horribly, pulling a stoppie on a 350LC. I had both bones poking out through the skin and they were split up their length too. Lots of pins, plates and plaster later it's fine (albeit a funny shape), but I can accurately predict rain 24 hours before we get it... and my broken toes (from pulling a wheelie on the same bike  :D) tell me when it's gonna drop below 8 degrees C. Oh, and I lost 4 teeth when I flipped a KX500 supermoto without a helmet, just got 'em sorted after 10 years of grief. These days I ride like a right old granny  :D

Obviously, none of this was my fault; I've got the best excuse in the book - "but there were girls watching..."  ::)

In fairness its easy to flip a kx500, as the power delivery went like this, nothing...nothing...nothing...WHOA TO MUCH ...nothing :D

Never rode a KX but I did have a go on someones CR500 two stroke while he abused my tuned up hornet :D, fun bike in a leathal sorta way :D

Things like that are the reason that I dont ride motorbikes.  I'd end up very dead very quick.
