Piano locks no longer
on: June 11, 2011, 06:17:11 PM
At BLADE, I went to the SOG booth. Looking at the tools I noticed all of them except for the PowerAssist had the old (not piano) locks. After asking about it, they have switched back to the old locks. Apparently they made the switch "6-8 months" ago. The PowerAssist will be keeping the piano locks.
In related news, SOG produces PL line without gear covers for the military. I did not know that.

This is good news. I wasn't a big fan of piano locks or gear covers.  "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"  ;)

I agree. The piano lock only made the tool harder to use.

Nope, sorry. They look just like the old PL "1.5" models.

Just to clarify, the gear covers are staying. Only the military version(s) doesn't have them. I personally like the gear covers, so I'm happy they aren't going away.

Wonder why the military doesn't want the cover.

I think it's because it's easier to clean the exposed gears if dirt or sand get in them.
