unable to edit?
on: June 24, 2011, 12:47:57 AM
I'd like to edit a post I made, but see no option of doing so.  Does one lose the ability to edit a post after a period of time?  I am signed in, so that is not the prob.  Thanks.

Yeah, it is unfortunate. :-\ But a couple years ago, a disgruntled member went back and edited hundreds of their own posts, which totally ruined several good threads here and made many more quite confusing. >:(

Grant really had no choice but to implement a time limit on editing posts. :(

We hope everyone is understanding of this policy. Please contact myself or any of the other mods and we will be happy to help edit older posts. :salute:

Bob :)

That is seriously disgruntled to do that  ::) Who could be bothered?  :ahhh

I have seen members on other forums do similiar things if a thread isn't going their way; they end up having editing access removed  :tu:

On another forum I saw every one of a member's posts get blanked. Turned his disgruntled newphew (14) got ahold of his computer and deleted 3 years worth of posts. He was seriously irritated, yet admired the boy's tenacity as it must have taken hours to edit and erase each one.

How about allowing editing for 3 days or a week after the post was made, then locking it?  Maybe the software won't allow that.

We have experimented with a number of different timeframes, and have been bitten in the @$$ by anything longer than the current maximum.  If it had been one incident then that would have been one thing, but we have had numerous instances where members have sabotaged posts for various reasons, none of which I find acceptable.

I take it quite personally when someone takes something away from this community, and as the only multitool related forum on the 'net, if we don't have something, chances are no one does.  While much of the info here can be regurgitated by many other members, in at least one case we had a member who posted all kinds of pre-Leatherman era information which was subsequently removed, not likely to ever be regained.
