My son broke his wrist
on: June 30, 2011, 11:48:09 PM
He was playing monopoly then stepped on the board. He slipped and landed wrong. Now he's broke. My poor little fellow. It was even his writing arm.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Man that sucks.  If there is any kind of silver lining, maybe he can get a cool cast to show off his monopoly  injuryto his friends. I always knew that it was a dangerous game. Maybe if he's right handed this w would be a good time to get a left handed knife or tool.   :climber:

He is left handed :( real bummer. I am planning on making a double screwdriver SAK just for my boys. Never too early to start, but still too young IMO for a real blade.

You should get him into a safer sport than Monopoly- something like football, hockey or skydiving.

Breaking bones is a rite of passage for young males, and is a huge part of the learning process- it's why bones do such a great job of healing when we are younger.  I'm sorry to hear that he's been hurt, and the timing couldn't be worse, what with breaking his wrist as the school year ends and the summer fun begins.  He's in for six weeks of frustration as everyone else has fun swimming, boating, bike riding and so on, but he'll survive and be a stronger person for it as he learns to adapt.

I'd suggest getting one of those pop up tents and maybe take him camping to show him life isn't over- you only need one hand to roast marshmallows and hot dogs!

He should be tough as nails then. He's been through a lot more than I had at his age. Hotdogs and marshmallows sounds like a great idea. Thanks to everyone for the wishes.

His cast needs decorating in monopoly squares :D

Hope he knits together quick - son of Hedgekid did it a while ago and the ER messed things up. He still hasn't got full mobility in his wrist as a result, but it was a nasty break (and it was during a manly pursuit; snowboarding!).

Bummer , I broke my wrist at around the same age playing cricket. My only real memory of it, is using one of those long thin letter opener to get into the cast to give my arm a good scratch ahhhhhhh  :D :D :D.
Hope he heals up good mate.

Ugh, there's no bragging rights at all in 'I broke my arm playing monopoly'.
You both should make up the coolest story ever about how he broke his arm, and tell that to everybody, he'll be the coolest kid in town ! Really, make it exceptionally cool.

Seriously tho, kids are very resilient, in a few days/a week he'll have no more pain, and will just be smurfin' about the smurfin' cast that he'll be wearing for the whole smurfin' summer.

Good luck to him, he'll be okay. :)

EDIT: I just thought of something. Here in Holland they have something called 'a swimming cast' that can get wet with no problem. It works just like a regular cast, but it wont melt when it gets wet.

Well he's doing better. He was a real trooper so I made him his very own custom SAK. Two screwdriver blades and a hook. He loves it.

I will put some blue custom scales on it when I get some g10. He says he's just like dad now. Makes my heart melt :)

He's 10, he should be able to handle a [real] blade [ not those rounded off kids things
He just broke his arm, his dad posted it in the 'break room'.

He deserves extra credit now that he's entered a new phase in his life, a rite of passage so to say, so he deserves a real pocket knife !
