How about a Leatherman Juice? I bought my girlfriend a Juice S2 and she loves it. it has everything a basic women would need in a small and light package. Or if she wants a saw get the CS4!

Caving and cycling both rely fairly heavily on equipment, and in both cases if something goes wrong, you are miles away from help and pretty well on your own.  I would suggest that whatever you get her, you don't go with something "girly" like a Lady Leatherman because chances are if she needs a tool, she won't be in a position to screw around.

Some good choices are the Victorinox Spirit and the Leatherman Charge TTi- both are no nonsense tools that perform well under pressure, are not overly bulky and fit a smaller hand better.  You could also look into the SOG Pocket Power Plier which is a similar size but adds the compound leverage system which allows the user to double the force on whatever they are gripping.  Ordinarily I wouldn't suggest the PPP for your type of use as the sheet metal edges on the handle can be fairly nasty, but cave divers and cyclists usually wear gloves so she should be able to manage it ok.  Plus, with the PPP she can add any particular tools that she may want instead of just taking the stock offerings.

Victorinox Spirit

Leatherman Charge TTi

SOG Pocket Power Plier

Look around on the main site- there's lots of reviews there, and of course feel free to ask any questions here!

By the way, I moved this to the General Forum so more folks are likely to see it.

For caving and cycling I would go with a Letherman Charge TTI.  If the lights go dark in that cave the abaility to open a blade one handed could be a plus.  The pocket clip allows it to be clipped to your biking shorts.  The leatherman Wave is a nice tool as well.  I am a fan of the SOG tools, my powerlock EOD has never let me down but it may be larger than what you are looking for.  My favorite tools are Victorinox.  I have a spirit and an original swisstool.  The Spirit is a great tool that is not too big to carry in the pocket if need be.  You cannot go wrong with any of the Swisstools.  I bought my wife a Squirt S-4 a few months ago and she really likes it but she is not into caving and cycling so she really does not need a really tough EDC tool.

I would say the Leahterman Charge AL for all the reasons that have already been stated, but can be had for quite a bit less money then the TTi.

My wife has a Juice EX6 that I bought for her and she loves it. She uses the big scissors more then anything else,  the diamond file if probably a close second for her nails, followed by the corkscrew for bottles of wine when out with the girls. She packs it in her purse wherever she goes, its pretty cool really, I never thought she would like it as much as she does.

Welcome!

What sort of budget do you have for this new tool?
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I'd second the KF4, though you'll have to look for one (still easy to find though) since it's discontinued. Also, I'd vote for a Wave- Similar to the Charges already mentioned, but it's less expensive and easier to sharpen if she's not a knife-nut... :) A Blast might be a good idea too, even more basic than the wave but with most of the same tools.

My gf doesn't like the tanks I have (Swisstool RS, Sog S60) but has "borrowed/stolen" my kick!
She uses it a lot but I am getting her a nice Sak and hope she likes it!

I'm also going to get her the Skeletool or Freestyle (I'm keeping one dammit!)
and maybe that'll do the trick too.
judge others by how they treat those they are allowed to mistreat

I'd go with a Wave, a Blast (a Fuse, if the Blast is too big), or a Powerlock/PPP.

Hi There,

I've been EDC'ing the Blast for the past few weeks (except when travelling the TSA routes)  I like the knife, I desperately want the saw which it has, the file is great and, lastly, but quite important, the scissors are very good.  The weight isn't an issue and the cost is reasonable.

Hope this helps - Joe
