As you all know, we are paying through the nose for a magazine ad, which hits the newstands in less than two weeks. In an effort to put out best foot forward, and to maximize the chances of your item selling at a good price, I am humbly suggesting that you take this opportunity to list your for sale items on EDCSource.

To encourage folks to give it a shot, I would like to make you all an offer- since we are advertising for three bimonthly issues, we'll be running it for six months, so I'll be happy to give anyone here six months with no fees at all. That's no listing fees (which we don't have anyway!), no commissions, nothing. Which means, you can list items there without cost or obligation, and you'll be supporting this forum.

Making EDCSource a success means more giveaways and other things for Multitool.org. You should see what we have planned to do, but have had to shelve because of budgetary concerns! If EDCSource takes off, we all go to the next level, so make sure to do your part!

Tactical Knives, on sale on the 23rd of this month. And, in whatever countries TK is distributed in, which I know US and Canada for sure. Beyond that is anyone's guess.

Actually I had no idea. I guess I'm not on top of things right now. Sounds like an interesting development. I might try listing.

I just had my first sale!

I also had my first small problem. I had not checked international shipping option, BUT the software does not let the buyer know there is no international shipping it simply says 'buyer pays shipping changes'. So it looks like something you have to put it in the shipping notes; however I suspect this will be easily missed.

If you check international shipping is prints a message indicating this on the auction, but not the reverse. The message also indicates the 'seller ... ships'; I think it would be better to say 'This item is/is not shipped internationally'. As a seller selects the shipping policy per item.

I think this should be fixed ASAP to avoid confusion.

In this case I'm sure it will workout as I'm not against shipping internationally buy larger/heavier items can turn a good deal into a bad one.

I've never listed an item on ebay yet so I can't compare that process, but in general ebay software is much more refined in terms of navigation and keeping the user's context. EDCSource seems kind of clunky.

On the postage page, where it says "Buyer Pays Shipping" or "Seller Pays Shipping" there is a box immediately below that which says "Seller Ships Internationally." If it's checked, it means you are willing to ship internationally. There is also a spot for Shipping and Payment details in which you can list shipping policies.

If you are running a number of auctions, it's worth taking a few minutes to set up your postage calculator and set it for any regions you are willing to ship to. You can find it by clicking on the Member's Area, then it's the last option in the selling menu. I put together a manual for using it that you can read here:

I hope that helps, but if not we have some other stuff in mind. And yes, the software may seem a bit clunkier than eBay, but I think it's actually quite nice once you get used to it. No doubt it would be a lot smoother if we had eBay's planning and design budget, but then we would probably also have their rulebook and corresponding fee structure as well!

Sorry, that does not really help. See my description of the issue again. If the check-box is not checked, there should be a clear message on the auction page that there is no international shipping. Ideally it should also require the buy to answer an extra confirmation when bidding if they are in a different region.

I have another serious bug with invoicing see message I sent from EDCsource "contact us" menu option.

Not as important as the invoicing issue, but it would be a very good improvement if email notifications of messages actually included the text of the message. Having to login to EDCsource to read the message is ......

I would love to agree to that, but I already get enough emails from people responding to PM notification emails here on the forum. I realize that it's a bit of a pain in the arse, but it's a more sure way of making certain that messages get where they are going.

And, the invoicing issue is being looked at. If there are any results so far, no one has communicated them to me, but that's not out of the ordinary!

That issue is easily solved by having the notifications sent from a no-repy email address that simply dumps any messages. In many cases, depending on the services provider, it does not even need to to be an existing address, or the return address can be a non-existent one, and the sender one set to dump.

One more, but then I'll stop because there are a lot of user interface things that should be looked at.

I don't know if there is a way to configure it, I'll look, but the default list order for won-items should be descending date, not auction-id. Ideally it would be configurable, if it is not already.

I hope this system can evolve it would be great to have an alternative to ebay, at least for some items. The only other forum that I'm aware of that has a good alternative to ebay for sellers and buyers, is the BST area of CPF. I'm sure there are other niches though.

Well that is what we are working towards, but it doesn't happen overnight. I've done as much testing and encouragement as I could over the last year and a half that EDCSource has been operational, but one person can only do so much.
