Leash Law Workaround
on: July 17, 2011, 12:34:07 AM
I got my dog when he was 4 months old and with lots of love and lots of treats with training he has become a great and trustworthy companion. He is under voice control at all times and doesn't require a leash even when walking on the streets of Manhattan. Unfortunately the leash laws don't take into account the temperament of the animal. It just simply states that all dogs must be on a leash, except for in certain parks before 9 am and after 9 pm.

The police generally don't bother us much as they can see he poses no threat and is very well behaved. But if it's the end of the month and they are bored it is possible they will write you a ticket. Since the law also isn't specific about the type of leash, just that it can't exceed 6 feet in length, I came up with this idea:

Now when the police or park rangers go by I can reach down and grab the fob and voila my dog is on a leash. When they leave, I let go and it retracts back onto the collar  :D

Excellent. How is Richard.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

He's doing great. Wasn't into the 90+ degree weather we were having but is all chipper now that it's a good bit cooler  :tu:

That's a great little setup you have there. The smallest dog I've ever had weighed around 70lbs, so that wouldn't have worked for her (she broke leashes regularly), but that's a neat concept and execution.
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

My boy is a very athletic 50 lbs. If he decided to bolt this thing would explode. It's only just for show :D
