Droid X is smurfed.
on: July 23, 2011, 08:29:38 PM
Had it lock up a few weeks ago but was able to reinstall the OS via computer. Had it happen again today but can't get it to reboot now no matter what .sbf I try. What's worse is the battery is too low now for the boot loader to run and with either USB or AC it won't charge. The processor gets hot but won't send any juice to the battery. I think the hardware is smurfed. I took it to a Verizon store and told them the whole story and even though I technically voided the warranty with my shenanigans they are replacing it under warranty, which is cool. But I won't have it till Monday. ARRRRRGGGGGGGG!!!  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

About a month back on my Motorola Defy I flashed in a 2.1 sbf after the over the air 2.2 update didn't take so well... after I started to flash I read that there's no going back to 2.1 from 2.2...  :ahhh  :bnghd: :crash: and then had the same sort of battery problems... I contemplated hotwiring an adapter in for direct juice to try and reflash but it was quite DOA... and I have no external charger or backup battery.

Took the phone to Vodafone, they sent it away for repair, and 2.5 weeks later I got my Defy back... with 2.2, turns out that wifi wasn't broken, just that it doesn't like my Fon "Fonera" wifi router anymore... luckily I had a Linksys WRT54G in my closet as a backup...

Still, sorta annoyed that they're only just rolling out 2.2 when 2.3 is all the rage... :twak:

Interesting about the router, I have a WRT54G and it doesn't play nice with the Droid X, but it also doesn't play nice with my wife's Windows 7 laptop, so possibly the WIFI on my router is also smurfed. I tried every configuration possible and it never held a connection to the Droid.

The only thing about 2.3 that I really like is the Select, Cut, Copy, Paste feature is tremendously improved.

Take your wrt54g and flash it with a mote friendly software. It's not to hard to do. Then they work flawless with great settings.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

I tried that, it has the latest firmware. Think I'm just going to upgrade to a wireless N router.

well I discovered that the router was the issue via a neighbour's open router whose signal occasionally makes it this far... kind of irritating... I thought they improved the wifi with this update... that, and FON is a Google thing too isn't it?

In any case, will soon be time to demand a new ADSL router all together from our ISP as ours has quite a few years on it now... and I think they pretty much only have ones with WIFI built in...

Not what I meant..let me clarify that. I mean to change the software inside the router to a different kind. Just do a little research and you will see what I mean. I bought an N type router and my wrt54g with other software out-performs it hands down.
