Flashlight in a hollow Reeves knife
on: August 03, 2011, 11:39:56 PM
Not like I need another distraction with all the titanium SAKs I'm working on but I thought you all would be able to help be brainstorm this out.

I want to put a flashlight in the handle of one of these Reeves knives. Not like you unscrew the cap and pull a light out but an actual flashlight head that replaces the cap. Thing is, I know nothing about lights. How would I activate it besides turning the bezel? I'd rather have a switch on the light head somehow. It has to have a strike bezel of course and be a 200+ lumen burner with a strobe. Most importantly, who should I get to make it for me once I have all the details worked out?

You should put in a request in the modders forum over at Candlepower Forums.

Personally, I don't think any kind of clicky switch is going to work; you should accept the fact that a twisty UI will be simpler to design and also more durable.  It can be made workable, there just have to be enough threads to keep the head from popping off and to allow o-rings for water sealing to be further in under the back edge of the head.  Also, with a twisty design, you could employ a quantum tunneling circuit, which IIRC means the light will get progressively brighter as you tighten the head, allowing for practically infinite adjustability.
The first Noble Truth: life is suffering.  Only by accepting that fact can we transcend it.

I'm going  to be no help at all on this but I am interested in seeing the results.  We do have one or two light modders here but Heinz might be right and you'll get a bigger response on CPF.

I'm going to have to find a Reeves hollow handle knife. The Schrade is just too big for my purpose and those boys at Microtech must be storing their weed in their hollow handle knives because they were obviously high when they priced them. Might have to put this on the back burner for a while.
