De-Waving An Emerson Knife
on: August 16, 2011, 09:59:36 PM
Here is a little project that I finished up a couple of weeks ago. I received the knife in trade and the previous owner tried to remove the wave. He tried it with a dremel tool and that is very hard to do.  :D He nicked the blade with the dremel but other than that, there was no other damage.

I finished de-waving the knife the proper way.  :tu: I also spent an hour with a Leatherman diamond file trying to get a custom Emerson thumb disc that I had lying around to fit properly. It was a pain, but I think the knife looks great now!

Here she is:

Amici,
Ditto's on the worksmanship but I have a question. Why would one want to "dewave" an Emerson? Isn't the wave he imcorporates into his knives a big plus when it comes to speed of opening?

Cheers,
Serge

Thanks guys!

I love the Emerson wave, but It will sometimes open when you pull it out of your pocket which is not always a good thing.  ;)

I'm of two minds about the Wave - fast and foolproof in a pinch , but sometimes premature . I've trained myself to hook a finger around the blade on the draw .

You cant over rely on the Wave , no good if you are on your back , or pushed against a wall .

BTW , nice mod Buddy .

Nice job indeed.   :tu:

Say... is that the CQC-15?  If so, I was wondering about that edge and ease of
sharpening?  I was wrestling with the idea of getting one and just making one whole pass on
the stone without pausing and changing angle to accommodate the tanto look?  With that re-curve
it might not look so bad on that particular blade?

It's a mini CQC-15. I like it because the tip matches the CQC-7 so its like having two knives in one. I would sharpen the tanto portion by itself and then do the rest.  :tu:
