Defs the Man
on: August 28, 2011, 12:53:05 AM
Just out of respect for the forum I sent the boss (Grant) an email asking what happened. Kindly he replied. It's wonderful knowing that the owner/operator of a forum being so busy would take time to reply to a  member. This is just to say thanks and keep up the great work. :salute: :tu:
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

No problem man- I don't believe in getting too tied up to deal with members.  After all, if it weren't for the members, we wouldn't have much of a site now would we?

I don't often get to reply in a useful amount of time, or in as great a detail as I should, but I really hate it when I ask a question and no one responds, so I wouldn't do it to anyone else.  Plus, just because I own the place doesn't mean I'm anything even remotely special like the owners of some sites!

;) Too true. Most site owners you don't even know their name. It's nice to know you're here, and there, and there, and.....well you get the point.

Indeed; I'm quite thankful for all the hard work Grant, Micah, and Esteban (and anyone else I'm amiss in mentioning) have put in to get things back on track. :salute:

I love these kinds of threads since it makes it seem like I do a lot around here, but the fact is Esteban and Micah do all the work.  In this case Esteban shouldered most of the load as it's more his department, but Micah pitched in with some of the config cleanup afterwards- both put in a fair amount of work to make sure everything came back as quickly as it did.

My part was miniscule- it's no secret that I have no idea how any of this stuff works and so for problems like this, there's really nothing I can do but stay the heck out of Micah and/or Esteban's way.

+1 - kudos to you guys for taking care of the problem in a safe and timely manner. I have a confession to make though.  I panicked a little bit.  I bought two tactical knives on another forum while this one was down.   :o

I have no idea- check your account and see if you won anything.  My best guess is they would have continued on as normal, just with no one else bidding.

That means that some bidders may have been lucky, with a relatively low final bid. On the other hand, some sellers may have been a bit unlucky, selling for a relatively low price. Am I making any sense?

But this is all just hypothetical, no idea if any of this is actually relevant :D

Yup, that would be my guess too.

Luckily the software has a reserve function, so sellers can protect themselves from buyers getting too good a deal.
