WTF?????

Yes I know that HP dropped WebOS, but that price is ridiculous. I would get one without thinking, if only I could order one.

It's worth saying that if this is the same tablet that was released to Walmarts and Sam's Club stores in the past half-year that they'll test your nerves.  They were slower to respond than a bogged down Win2000 computer. :/

That's why HP axed them.  They could barely give them away.

Apple has such a big lead on this, that it's going to be hard for anyone to catch up.  Which in a way is a shame, because I think they need some competition.

I'd love to have an iPad, but I honestly don't have a genuine need for one.  I suppose I could justify it for email and the like when I'm away from my computer, but I already have an iPhone and a MacBook Pro, so that excuse is pretty weak.  I can't legitimately use one for work either, because they don't have the display output features I need for that, and the software just isn't well developed enough either.

Right now though, my AT&T contract on my iPhone 3GS is up next month, and I'm waiting for the 5G to come out.  When it does I'll get one and try Verizon; I've been having a lot of connection issues in my new location; no 3G, only Edge.  I'm hoping Verizon has better 3G coverage here.
The first Noble Truth: life is suffering.  Only by accepting that fact can we transcend it.

I don't see how their Touchpad even made it out the door; it's so unresponsive that they should've just pushed back the release date until it was ready to ship.  I must say, though, Acer's and Asus' tablets are very cool, though again not quite as nice as an iPad 2. :/

At this sale rate the dev community will have a working Android port within a month or two.

Fair enough. :D  It's like the Nook; take a e-reader with an LED screen (why is beyond me, as having an LED screeen on an e-reader is missing the point ::)), put Android on it, and voila. :D

i just got thru building the HP experience tablet/phone tables at all of our market stores and a few in Louisiana. :poh: HP paid prime vendor dollars for premium space in the computer department. In all my time building and demoing electronic displays i've never seen one flop so fast. Even Google TV lasted a year before we tore it down.

The HP Veer phone was like that tiny phone Zoolander had. Useless unless you're a hobbit.

I know it's not the ipad2, but that's sort of my point... at $99 I'm not expecting miracles and yes it's only a matter of time for android to hit this too...

Clicked the links for OnSale, and two friends got a 16 GB easy, the 32 GB was hit and miss. One kept clicking the link and after about 15 minutes got confirmation that he had purchased both versions.

http://www.amazon.com/HP-FB356UT-QUALCOMM-Snapdragon-Wireless/dp/B0056UOUHS?t=slickdeals&tag=slickdeals - 32 GB link

http://www.amazon.com/Smartbuy-TouchPad-QUALCOMM-Snapdragon-Wireless/dp/B0056UOUC8?t=slickdeals&tag=slickdeals - 16 GB link

Although can't afford it, placed an order for a 16GB then kept trying for a 32GB. Got a 32GB confirmation, so cancelled the 16GB. Hopefully the 32GB doesn't get axed out as can use it for job hunting and grabbing updates & email while job hunting, or between doctor visits. Laptops are a bit awkward at times and a price like this is very hard to resist - even it it means eating raman noodles for the next 6 months.

HP TouchPad Web OS 3.0 Tablet 16GB - In Stock! $129.95 - Item #:FB454UTABA - UPC:886111788637
Source: http://www.erwincomputers.com/fb454utaba.html

Never dealt with this company before thus I cannot recommend them. It just came through on Twitter when I was searching for a different topic. (Does not like Twitter.)

HP on Twitter also said more tablets go on sale sometime Wednesday for the next wave. Supposedly more stores will be getting them too. You can try the HP site: http://www.shopping.hp.com/store/product/product_detail/FB359UA%2523ABA/1?jumpid=in_r329_personalization/browse1/home_PDP

Contacted Amazon CSR and they confirmed my 32GB is being shipped. Best part about raman noodles is I eat them from my Leatherman MUG.  :D

Today they dropped the prices to €99 for the tablet and €60 for the Pre3 phone in Germany. But I was too late, they were sold out after one hour.

Qualcomm (the tablet's CPU maker) has already ported an Andriod 2.2 Gingerbread, and folks already have Ubuntu as a dual boot OS. WebOS supposedly has not died.

The internals including the chipset and CPU are all used in existing Android tablets - that means that there are Android drivers for them already.  Once someone figures out how to get around the Touchpad bootloader, and Android port is a very strong possibility.

I managed to grab one in the uk for £120, couldn't resist the bargain!

ive never been convinced by the concept of the tablet, they are very limited in what they can be used for, are fiddly to type for long periods of time on and - considering that - are either vastly overpriced at ~£500 like the ipad and zoom, or woefully slow amd painful to use. Given I have a smartphone, laptop and pc there was no need to add another gadget to my collection despite my love of wasting money on technooogy.

I'm a sucker for a sale though and the very small niche that this thing fills is useful enough to spend 120 quid on, as at the price I paid I cant fault the touchpads shortcomings. - it browses the web as well as the iPad or android tablets -ie better than a laptop in your lap - and the 'core' apps are just as good too - the hardware is solid and multitasking is so much better than either android or ISO. The only fault I have with it is the same fault every tablet has  - namely that its a tablet -but for something that sits on my coffee table to quickly use the net or check an email while im watching tv its great.

id never dream of paying  full price for any tablet though - compared to a cheap laptop theyre just far too limited.

Have had two orders get cancelled. A friend got one of each, and we both ordered at the same time. Doubtful will get a 16GB at this rate.

Have been looking at the
Lenovo A1, but not sure if it uses Gorilla Glass or not yet. Also curious if the real GPS can be used as a navigator like a GPS unit - and what size of space is needed for the maps. Also noticed the hint word, hard drive, not solid state drive.
This one is $200 with warranty options, expandable by miniSD, yet not sure I was to plunk down $200 on a tablet just yet. Like Lenovo's
ThinkPad the most so far, but with the multifunction pen that is $520 - !

I know it's not a Touchpad, but how about one of these new tablets for $70 from 1saleaday?  I'm debating about one, myself, especially at that price. :/

I tried getting one of these a few days after HP announced the price reduction, I called Bestbuy stores all over Long Island and all were out of stock.  In fact most of the stores had actually changed their automated phone greeting to mention that they no longer had any Touchpads in stock and would not be getting any.  One store I called even had a live person answer with the following "Thank you for call Bestbuy, we no longer have the HP Touchpad.  How can I help you.

This product was very interesting at the $100 price point.  The hardware was great but the WebOS was reviewed as being sluggish, I used one and felt the same.

I wish i could have gotten one.  For that price I think it was an absolute bargain, and apparently so did alot of people.  I think the market now knows that the $100 to $200 price point is a sweet spot for many consumers waiting for tablet prices to come down.

I would warn against anyone thinking of purchasing a tablet with a resistive touch screen.  There is nothing inherently wrong with resistive touch screens, but the OS has to be designed around it. For tablets the capacitive touch screen is a much better technology and the Android OS certainly functions and feels better with a capacitive touch screen.

I followed a guide on tweaking my touchpad which took about 5 minutes and made it absolutely blistering :-) main thing was overclocking the cpu to 1.5ghz, the speed it was designed to run at. Might have impacted batter slightly but it does a good job of underclocking itself when needed so i havent really noticed - its just completely cut out the occasional lag where it had to catch up if you did too much.

anyone looking for a cheap alternative the andypad pro is gettjng rave reviews for a bottom of the market device (the non pro one is resistive and aimed at kids)
