The day has come: Time to replace the tractor.
on: September 13, 2011, 04:28:31 PM
Our little Ford 1710 tractor (4X4) is rapidly approaching 4000 hours.  Over the last 2 winters, it's really struggled to keep up with the work.  We've decided to move up to a larger tractor with front end loader.

I can't complain though, we've had this tractor 19 years and it has been a workhorse.

Nineteen years?  Sounds like it's about due to be put out to pasture!  I get to see a lot of new John Deere, Case and other brands coming in from overseas and they are pretty sweet nowadays.

The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

I saw some fancy looking new tractors harvesting last month.  More lights on the front than  ... something with a shed load of lights.

Looked very cool but I'm betting you can buy a small house for the cost of one  :ahhh
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Lil' blue was 4X4, 30 HP, 23 HP at the pto with a front end loader.

We're looking at moving up to 40-45 hp at the PTO, still 4X4 and front end loader.  If it's as reliable as my old tractor, it'll be the last one we ever need to purchase.

NB: Our 1710 was used when we bought it in 1992, it's a 1983 tractor, so really, it's 28 years old!

Rebuild that old workhorse. They don't make them like that anymore. Besides the new ones are a PITA to work on.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Sounds like she have been a good tractor. I have an old '67 4020 John Deere. She is still running strong.
5600 Fords are sweet tractors.
