Sigh. Looks like I missed another nice meet up. Well things like work, and a lack of a passport get in the way. Come to think of it, I should get my passport sooner than later.

Seconded. I'm waiting with bated breath to hear about Tim's EDC model. I'd love to get up there one day, and I'm only in Los Angeles!

I'm just on the other side of Oregon. The drive would kill me as my car is no where close to being comfortable for longer than an hour's drive. When I get to the Boise VA center am usually on a cane cause my driving foot & knee are in severe pain. Keep hoping to get a roomier vehicle that is economical on gas, and has cruise control too. :-\

Personally I was very surprised at what Tim had in the sheath on his belt.  It was not the tool I expected.

I suspect Tim carries a tool that doesn't even have a name. But I am hoping there's an awl in it!

I'm guessing he carries a Crunch :tu:

My surprise was that he did not carry a Crunch.  I had heard several people talk about the special place in Tim's heart for the Crunch so when he was not carrying one I was surprised.  I did ask Tim if the Crunch was as special to him as I had heard and he confirmed the stories I had heard.  The first thing Tim was that his first designs for what became the PST included a locking mechanism and he even pulled out the pictures to show us.  It took 4 years to finish the Crunch design and we were schooled by Tim on the proper way to open a Crunch.  It is a 3 step process....as simple as 123.  1 - open the tool and rotate the pliers out,  2 - Hold the pliers shut (most important and missed step), 3 - Lock the free handle into the plier head.  Funny thing is that Tim is very easy going but he definitely was authoritative and animated when he showed us how to open a Crunch.  So if you ever have a Crunch in your hand around Tim Leatherman be sure you can open it correctly!

But it is incredibly apparent that the Crunch is very near and dear to Tim's heart and I will never forget how to properly open a Crunch.  He had at least 2 Crunches in the tools in his "collection" that he showed us.

By the way, I practiced Tim's method when I got home last night and surprise surprise he is right!

Bruce

I've been a good Crunch owner then  That was apparent to me from the moment I first tried to connect the handle :tu:

Still I'm a little disheartened to hear that the man himself doesn't carry a Crunch
