An old attempt at getting around plier based Multi's .

Made a few of these back in the day . Combo of a Farmer and a 4" Needle nosed Vice Grip ( US Made ) .

My apprentice and I both tried them but went back to our combo of a Leatherman Old Skool Wave , and a Vic. Huntsman .

If I required pliers for heavy duty use, I'd probably choose the Farmer & Vice Grip.

We found that having to adjust them all the time was a real PITA , and they don't cut well . Strength and tuffness were good . If ViceGrip made a self adjusting /locking plier using a system like that found on Knippex , with reasonable cutters - would have been a good system .

I, too, experiment with various combinations of carrying "old style" tools instead of a multitool. The "old style" EDC set includes a 4WR or 4LN (long nose) or larger Vise-Grips.

The experiment ends when I enounter a task for which the Vise-Grips proves too clumsy. But, it's still fun to switch EDC tools around.

Here are more of the separate tools I carry sometimes instead of a multitool. The set includes one pliers type tool, knife, scissors, and screwdrivers. The Doug Ritter (Benchmade) Mini Griptilian is just one of the knives in rotation.
