Food for thought
on: October 08, 2011, 01:52:04 AM
So I have seen that people like to have pocket clips on modded SAKs. So here's a thought I've been pondering on lately. What if we make a detachable pocket clip similar to the leatherman wave clip. Do you think this would work. And if people are interested. Thanks all
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Sounds like a good idea but would it be universal for many models? I think I'd still have two SAKS if they had pocket clips

Sounds like a great idea. Just wondering how you would make it detachable.

I am not one to really comment on SAK mods but i would imagine making one of the liners longer and out of spring steel, you could probably fold it over and then shape into a permanent one.

Maybe even the liner directly under the scale?

I am about to try my hand on my own SAK mod once I get the parts for it, I am pretty sure it's going to be G10 clad, maybe i'll try my hand at making a clip too :)

From what i am thinking, I am going to try to use a large backspring, like the pliiers. Then maybe grind a slot or nick in it. Add a lock mechanism with a spring similar to a LM wave. I will try to get a mock up pick soon if I have time.

The backside of the clip would have to equal the thickness of the spring.  Also, the spring would have to be a "dead space" as it could not function with a "chargelike" clip.  It is a good idea and I think it could work but the clip would probably have to be fabricated specifically for that mod.

Without wanting to douse any fires, I have found a suspension clip to work perfectly on SAKs. Later I switched to putting a torch (flashlight) on the suspension clip and a mini latch hook type clip on the SAK. Clip the SAK to the torch and away you go, deep carried but easy retrieval  :)

I cant think of a simpler and more effective way with a SAK, sorry  :-\

I have a small S hook that i use for SAKs it works well. The SAK in the pix is my muzzle loading SAK the clip makes it easy to access it when i am shooting. I use the blade to cut patches at the muzzle, the combo tool i use for removing the lock and adjusting the elevation on the sight, the eye glass screwdriver i use for adjusting  the windage,  i use the file for opening up  the sights, i use the pen for writing on targets and i cut cleaning patches with scissors.

Brilliant! I'm totally stealing that idea. With my titanium liners I could just cut one from .040" sheet for the under scale liner and make a tail on it that could be bent over for a clip. It should ride nice and low in the pocket.

I think it would be a super idea so long as it's reliable.  Would it be secured to the liner or scale?
