Anyone else watch this show?  Basically they take "typical" warriors from different time periods and locations that have never fought before, test a bunch of their signature weapons and input all the info into the computer, which simulates 1000 battles between the two and determines (theoretically) which one would likely win in a fight.

I have some serious reservations about some of their testing processes, but it's interesting to watch anyway, and I was surprised by some of the outcomes.

In this episode they are looking at Maori weapons, and one of them (I think it was the taiaha) was described as a "multitool of killing."

I wonder when SOG is going to start producing their own version of it?  :D

It's fun to watch them bash crap out of everything, but other than that it's a joke. I just jump ahead to the smashing/blowing up stuff part and watch that. :D

Having studied European martial arts for over 17 years I also have severe reservation about some of the 'experts' they've had on the show.  All in all very silly and not to be quoted in any serious conversation, but still fun to see (when I'm not yelling at the TV when they're doing it wrong  :-[:D

I'd thought that since they ranked William Wallace very highly that you'd be a fan of theirs Gareth!  :D

And yes, there are many factors that I don't believe are taken into account- for example, environment.  The gladiator/Apache matchup for example would differ greatly based on the environment, as would the viking/samurai fight.

It is interesting to watch though, and while some of the weapons they selected would not have been my first choice in the same situation, it is neat to see some warriors I'm not overly familiar with.  For example, I wasn't terribly familiar with the Maori or their multitool!  :D

No one mentioned Mel Gibson except you...  :pok:

My mother is from Glasgow so I had known about William Wallace, Rabbie Burns and Rob Roy while other kids were still watching Sesame Street.  I couldn't understand why no one else knew Desperate Dan, Oor Wullie or Gnasher was!  :D

Like you, I kinda grew up on those comics, but then so did everyone else here.  I was always a Dennis and Gnasher fan myself. :D

No one around me (other than my brother) knew who any of them were- no Broons, no Bananaman, no Desperate Dan...

But back to my point- I was very familiar with William Wallace long before Mad Max got involved.
