And thanks to Rick, for FVEAP (:hatsoff:) a super cool old Ranger.

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,43259.new.html#new

The scales color is a dark kaki sort of green, not black. The emblem is on aluminium. Side lock. I like this SAK a lot. Here it is along with a new EvoWood Ranger:

And few Wenger Profis (Professionals). The '87 one is an extra from Rick received with the old 2001 Jura Ranger:

Some wonderful Wengers in this thread!  :tool: :D

Seeing the brilliant blaze orange camo model made me wonder, is that an applied finish that might wear off like on the Vics, or is it molded in?

Hi Carlo,

More fun-and-games with Wenger. The Troller (1.45.03 / 16962)(what you show above) was sold in at least one market as the Angler. The other Angler (1.44.03 / ? ) that I have is basically a Troller without the scissors. It was also sold as the Pecheur. I have versions both with a fly lure on the handle and plain.

Thank you Karl,
exactly the informations I was looking for!
By the way, my "Angler/Troller" came from the UK.

Nice one and congratulations also for the "Professional" series!
Is there a source in Europe for the "sans croix" variant?

I don't have the AP blaze, but if they are made like the Hardwoods serie (camo), the finish is just printed, so it will wear off with use.

Very cool additions. I wish the 65mm line had more models/tools to offer.

And those scouts. Does the Sécurité 17/Forester have a locking bottle opener/screwdriver?

yes it does have locking fl.screwdriver. I believe these are mid 90s knives, also the scales are attached like today. Pressed over the rivits/bushings, probarby so  since i can not see any other way?
Wenger have used this from time to time since its their invention..

I don't have the AP blaze, but if they are made like the Hardwoods serie (camo), the finish is just printed, so it will wear off with use.

The sans croix SIs I think (I may be wrong) they are available new only in Europe and that there may be a limited series, last alox SIs produced ever with the last parts available, less the front scale. I found mine at a seller from Germany and they had at least another at the time. They are not advertised as being special in any way and this may make them harder to spot.

The AP blaze feels very good in hand, great feel. The finish seems to be some thick hard plastic paint, matte. No idea how it is applied. Cannot see any spot where is missing, inside of the scales for example. Very well done. Time will tell how it will wear.

I likes them wood handled Rangers.  Some year maybe... way over budget at present.

The wood is walnut, same as the rest of EvoWoods. I think that this is the only Ranger model done in EvoWood, called "RangerWood 55", basically a Ranger 55 in thick and solid walnut scales. Unfortunately yes, same as most smaller EvoWoods, they tend more expensive compared with the plastic handled variants.

A few more pics of this one:

Never really cared for that style of knife till I saw it in the walnut wood scales. That is one sexy knife!

Peeked over at Wenger's site and ironically they actually have an awl with a sewing eye on that model. The knives, if am not mistaken, do not have the sewing eye. Wonder how this one got it and the knives didn't?

you are welcome :tu:
These Rangers are really well made

i did mention i have an interest for ergonomics, just a few weeks ago i got a Swibo         2 21 16. It must the best developed handle i have seen so far. The safety ergonomics and comfort in the hand is the best. The blade is straight from the handle aswell and the sharpness is outstanding.

I just checked and this RangerWood 55 of mine indeed has the sewing hole on the awl. Same as the older Jura Ranger also has. From a quick look around on the Web it seems that all Rangers (with the awl) have it. So I think the missing eyelet is only for the smaller Wengers.

yes

I see the Swibo got different handles also, must check up on them more. It is the best i have seen so far among all kinds of knife brand handles. I wonder who is the mind behind it. Probarbly a result of the long history -still i can not find any bad to say. Only thing is two places got a small notch from the molding, that is on the finger guard part in front. also a small notch on the back protector part. This can be dehorned easy with a SAK blade if one want. There are many combinations to a knife handle, this i like alot.

I like this knife - so far i have only tried the RangerWood 55 in hand, i do not own one.
The ergonomics was great and the fit very good. Surface also very well done.

I have not seen many knives today at such a price/cost with so high quality. I am a fan of the old Ranger style , however i feel the new Rangers with evolution is really nice aswell. It is very difficult to make a good ergonomic handle for a one blade knife. On a multiple function knife is a completely different task. It is very hard to do.

ps people!
i have still not been able to confirm the patent for pressfit scales, i know it was mentioned by Wenger they allowed Vic to use their patent for hidden rivets. Was it the type today with the pressfit over the rivet/bushings? Or just the fact it is "hidden" ?
I can see Wenger have used different methods for attaching the scales over the years that is hidden,? anybody
