I've wanted one of these for a LONG time
on: October 29, 2011, 09:07:15 PM
Being an MD (of sorts  ::)), I've always fancied a doctor's knife.  Up until now, I've never taken the final step in getting one.

Thanks to Ashley, I now have this Case limited edition Doctors Knife.  :D

The action is super smooth and the finish is fantastic.

Oh, and let me say, a big thank you to Ashley for the lovely and thought extras she included.  ;) :tu:

Good looking knife.
There is something tantalisingly sexy about the long, slim blade of a doctors knife.
I wanted one for some time too but could not figure out why.
(I got a RR (I think))

Opened, the knife is 6 3/4 inches long.  The blade itself (just the sharp part) is 2 5/8 inches.

Nice, now you can crush the pills and have their true taste when taking one.  :D (that's what the square butt is meant for if I recall)

Bad picture..
Mine (Steel Warrior, not Rough Rider), probably  :D  of a much lesser quality than Dr Whippy's Case, also had a spatula for keeping the patients tongue low down when you are examining their tonsils.
The idea is that the long thin blade can be used like a scalpel.
They are very elegant, though fragile looking, knives. The blade is thin and sharp and should serve well for peeling fruit and other normal cutting tasks.
You can use the spatula to stir your coffee!

What is the doctor's equivalent EDC nowadays? disposable scalpels or something for any cutting jobs? One of my colleagues, who has spent a lot of time working around psychiatrists says that, aside from a lot of pens in their pockets, there is usually an MT. I'll have to follow that up.

A multitool?  Seriously?  Both my parents are doctors, and as such I know a lot of doctors and not one of them carries a knife or multitool on them.  Standard cutting implements even for in-home visits are sterilized scalpels in autoclave packages.  Using an MT or pocketknife for *anything* is inviting a lawsuit (and not allowed under BC Medical rules anyways).

Well, down in the autopsy suite... :D

We use whatever we damned well please.  ;)

But you're right.  Everything nowadays it's either prepackaged disposables or autoclaved, QC'ed and moisture indicator packed instruments. It's really the best way.

(And for the record, I carry a modified Cybertool 41, which is used in the Surgical Pathology Frozen Section room regularly--to fix equipment).

Good friends of ours worked in a regional hospital in the UK 10 years ago & the head of the small ICU  Dr Nutbag. Used bike spokes he modified in his shed & then had them sterilised by the hospital as a threading wires/dilators for putting in CVC lines (a CVC is a large muilti lined iv device).Crazy crazy crazy  :D :D. I bet he carried a SwissGrip  :P :D :D. I believe the English would call Dr Nutbag 'eccentric'  :D :D
