Replaced my G2
on: January 04, 2008, 11:06:42 PM
Ok the G2 is a fantastic light, but I am sick of gettting new heads and it really eats batteries. So I went out and bought the G2LED.

Gotta say this thing is the cats meow. I love the throw of it and it is actually a pure snow white light. It is still the same shape, but it has a allum head that has caution hot surface/. and I have no clue why? I had the thing on for close to an hour(by the way it has a 12 hr runtime!!!)and it really is no hotter than the Incan G2. I just now got to figure out what to do with the old G2.

Anyone else going to all LED?

I went all LED a little less than a year ago when I replaced my Pentagon X2 with a D-Mini. Since then I've be strictly an LED carry man, deigning to use incans on the rare occasion I needed more than 125 lumens of light. With the release of the Q5 and Rebel series I think may not use an incandescent at all this year.

I was actually looking at a 225 lumen head to put in the older G2 but I am worried if it will handle the heat with only a poly lens. I will have to post over at CP to find out.

I have about 35 LED lights and no incans.  You couldn't talk me into buying another incan.

I absolutely love the D-mini... it's ruined all other pocket lights for me :)

I've been wondering though, are there any other single battery lights that have more throw?  (I love LED throw :) )

Me too, it's like the Leatherman Blast for me. It's so good, why even use anything else?

The last I had heard the new D-Mini Q5 had slightly more throw than the regular when used with Li-Ion cells but other than that I understand this light is currently tops in single CR123A cell throw. I haunt CPF pretty regularly, even with it's current decline in quality posters, I too am wondering what will overtake the D-Mini. It's held it's crown for a insanely long time in the lighting fast flashlight world.

Speaking of LED throwers...

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4081

I picked one of those up a month or two back and I have to say I'm pretty impressed...

Other than their keychain lights I ignore Dealextreme's flashlight offerings. The two or three lights I've gotten from them have just been subpar in totality, that and I'm a total snob about glass lenses. If it ain't got it I don't want it.

I do hear than the newish RapidFire Spear is a throw monster but I'm going to wait and see how it hold up before dropping 125$ on it. It has a very "Red Star" design aesthetic that is attractive and quite different than anything else I've seen.

Before I got the  6PL and tried to do allot of reading up on it before I spent the money on it and in doing so read that the reason SF put the allum head on the G2L is the allum head pulls heat away from the LED emitter better than the G2 plastic head therefore improving output. I took the P60 LED out of my 6PL and put it in my 6PD. It's now one of my favorite lights. I gotta agree with you about the P60Ls output and runtime,  I really like mine. Really good throw with good flood.

You can just see the LED sticking out from under the strike bezel. :D

The Projection light is about the same quality as the D-mini (DX sells the D-mini now too) and it has a glass lens :D

DX really seems to be hit or miss when you get stuff from them though...
