Tool for Paintball
on: November 23, 2011, 05:21:33 AM
Hey all! I carry a SOG PowerAssist with me daily, but as I have recently gotten back into paintball, I am looking for a second multitool. The one thing I find I need (and the SOG doesn't have) is allen wrenches. I've considered carrying a bike tool (or even just a set of allen wrenches on a ring), but I also need needle nose pliers, a knife, and screw drivers. Are there any multitools out there than incorporate all these things, or will I be stuck carrying multiple tools?

How about a wave, with the bit kit?

When I used to PB, I had the 3 allens I needed in my pocket stuck to a small magnet.
Also a cleaning rag!

Fun times.

I suppose any of the multi tools that come with a bit driver could work (with hex bits inplace of allen wrenches). I am actually considering a Mut for that reason. Any other tools out there that might be a bit more tailored to the needs of a paintballer?

If you are looking for a paintball specific multitool there are only 2 that I know of.

There is one from Tippmann. It has some useful implements such as a adjustable wrench and it contains the allen key sizes that fit a standard Tippmann marker. I have seen it for about $29. I am still considering purchasing one.

Also there is one from DYE. It has a small wrench that is mostly for fill nipples and it has a larger range of allen keys that are fit on DYE markers same as the with the Tippmann . It costs about $25. I own one and it is nice to have for general paintball use and especially if you have a DYE marker.

The shank length of the bits from a bit kit and the tightness of the allen screw versus using a standard L shaped allen could be a concern due to reach and stripping heads and threads which is a common experience in paintball.

I use a Topeak Mini 9 bicycle tool since it has all the most common allen wrenches and it's really tiny.

That's it next to the handle when I rebuilt the trigger on my Tipmann 98 Platinum.

Also, Grant Lamontagne, I noticed you have a sling adapter on your 98. Did you perchance carry your rifle on a sling while wearing a vest? This is the dilemma I am in now. I normally have my 98 on a one point sling, but I am going to get a vest soon and worry it will not work so well with the vest. My thoughts are either to a) get a rig mount sling (such as http://www.gearsector.com/view/product/97/) or b) try to run my current sling through carabiners attached to the vest. Any thoughts?

Since I took that photo I have also added a bayonet

WTF!? In my paintball games, we try not to stab other players.
