I feel like there used to be a paddling thread, but I can't find it anywhere.  Anyway, here's what I'm driving and paddling these days.

All car companies can be bad, but some are just a lot badder than the rest.

+1

I just try to minimize the use of products from companies/countries I think are not doing what they should, in terms of respecting the consumer.

Both!  I've owned the Rover for 25 years and it used to be a daily driver, but now it lives a mostly retired life spotting canoes in the summer.  :)

When my trusty 10 year old Citroën Berlingo is on its last breath, the Duster will most likely be the one to replace it.

We own two Berlingo's, one 10 years old, the other 3.  The Berlingo had an awesome value for the money, and I would buy a new Berlingo but since its "face-lift" last year it got a lot more expensive, to a point that I thought that I could do better for the money.

My Defender or Wrangler dreams will never come true, not enough budget now, and by the time the mortgage from our house is done (9 years to go), our oldest son will be 25, the other 23, and our baby girl 14, and I just can't buy a 60.000 Euro car while my kids are trying to find a home for themselves and their loved ones by that time...

So a Duster it will be (or maybe a Suzuki Jimny, if it's still available by then, and if I can fit my 1,94m behind the driving wheel  :D).

Time to blow the dust of this topic...

Above you can read a quote from one of my posts here back in 2020, and now in 2026, I'll give you guys an update on our "car situation".

And as you will see, I am a man of my word...

In january 2023 we got rid of our youngest Citroën Berlingo because it had a serious issue, even though it wasn't even 5 years old by then, so we bought a Dacia Duster "Journey Plus" edition.

I thought about buying the 4 wheel drive version, but eventually we went for the regular 2 wheel drive one.

And since we both prefered the Arizona Orange colour, this became our new car...

We love this car, Misses TG-24 drives it every day for work, we used it for our trip to Austria back in 2023, it's a great car and offers awesome value for the money

And at the beginning of 2024 I heard the news that Suzuki is going to pull the Jimny (which, by then, was already available in LCV version only) from the European market entirely, due to insane European emmision laws.

And since our Berlingo was 14 years old by then, and started showing it here and there, a decision had to be made.  So in april 2024 Misses TG-24 found one of the last new Suzuki Jimny's in Jungle Green available in Belgium and we went for it.

I took out the metal plate and roster that divided the seats from the trunk/boot since they prevented the driver seat from going as far back as possible (which I need with my 194 cm), and they are not mandatory over here since the Jimny doesn't have any financial benefits from being an LCV in Belgium anyway.

Here's a pic of the boot with the LCV divider removed, and the second pic shows the boot after I put in some storage bags and some lashing points on the sides.

What can I say, I'm over the moon with my little Jimny,  it puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it.

I like the Jimny.  They remind me of the old Suzuki Samurai.

I drive a 2016 VW Golf R.  It's a fun little car.

Suzuki put a number of subtile references to the old Samurai in the JB-74 (the official name of the current Jimny).  The current Jimny and the Samurai are both my favorite Jimny versions.

Love that Golf R, I believe it has about 3 times the horsepower that my Jimny has, if I remember correctly  :o

It just feels great, old skool, yet new, hard to, describe.

And even with my 1.94m (or 6 ft 4 in  :D  ) I have more than enough head room, and with the seat all the way back it feels as if it was custom made for me  ;).

And it's so short, no need for parking sensors or cameras, If you think you see a possible parking spot, you know you can just wiggle it in.

My apologies to the metrically challenged, I know the feeling.  Everytime I hear an American or British YouTuber talk about which size of bolt or nut you need and they start using fractions my head starts to spin .

That Jimny is so cool TG24! It's also one of the best colours, if not the best one. Have you seen Mat Watson's videos about importing these (and the five door version) into the UK? Very entertaining.

I've been driving a Volvo EX30 for two years now. It's small, cute and quite powerful. Rear legroom is not great and it has been plagued by software issues (just like the Polestar 2 I owned a few years back - apparently software engineering is not Volvo's forte).

You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

That's a nice homage to the Samurai.  Many years ago I helped one of my old bosses fix one up for his ranch.  He would use it as a trail vehicle  It took a beating and never let him down.

My Golf R is up to approximately 350hp - 260kW after some modifications.

Funny this topic should get bumped, I just traded in my 10 year old Kuga last month.

I can't say what used car prices are like elsewhere but here in the UK it feels like it's gone nuts.  My primary goal was a decent boot (trunk) and just a touch of fun to drive.  Is it just me or are boots getting smaller in newer cars??  Quoted volumes are next to meaningless as irregular intrusions make a lot of the supposed space unusable.

Enter the humble Kia Ceed SW.  Room for the dog crate (bigger one fits too for longer journeys) plus my random whatsits and some shopping.  Late 2022 with modest mileage.  For me 158BHP and 0-60mph in a hair over 8 seconds is enough to be fun.  Having a physically key for the ignition is taking some getting used too.  :D  Has a pleasing mix of buttons as well as a touchscreen suits me as well.

I'm sure the Jimny emissions thing came here up a few years back.  Damn shame as I knew a few people who love the things.  Sorry to say I can't see your pics (UK being difficult with some image hosting sites) but I looked up the colour and it's a great one for that car.  8)

Great trucks! I have a 2014 GMC Sierra Z71 double cab (extended cab) in Sonoma Jewel Metallic. Bought that a couple years ago and it has been great. Nicest truck I've ever owned. Never thought I would want heated leather seats, but Lady Beagle insisted...and it's like driving my sofa around. Scout the ThundahBeagle occupies the rear bench seat, which is covered by a Kurgo seat cover.

We've got a road trip / off-road trip coming up this May. My nephew out in Montana is getting married, so I'm taking my vacation and driving out from Boston. Took the air dam off the bottom of the front bumper and installed Bilstein 5100's for a 2 inch level ride, so we can handle whatever comes at us when we drive through the Badlands and whatnot.

This was from our drive from Boston to Bozeman.  We were at the Roosevelt Arch after crossing into Yellowstone from the Gardiner gate.  Great ride.  Still have the truck and drive it daily.  Right now there's 240,000 miles on it - the distance from the earth to the moon.  Working on that return trip, so this is another maintenance-heavy year.  Fingers crossed

Thanks.  I've had three GMT400's.  The one pictured and two that were two-door full size Blazer Silverados and I loved them.  Didn't get rid of the last one until about 9 years ago or so.  Sometimes I wish I'd have put the money into maintenance and repairs instead of buying the '99 Jeep WJ Grand Cherokee and the '14 GMC Sierra.  But I gotta say, this Sierra has been the nicest truck I've ever owned and had overly done well for me
