The mad thing you do on overseas trips...
on: May 14, 2013, 12:18:57 PM
Currently on a 11 day trip to New Zealand. I'm not usually one for "adventure sports" but I got roped in to do the "Skywalk" in Auclkand.

192m (630ft) above the street below on a 1.2m (4ft) wide pathway with no handrails round the outside of the tower... and then they get you to hang out over the edge!!

You would never get me doing that. I would be thinking bad thoughts....like...why do I have to wear this orange jumpsuit....to make finding the body easier?   :o

Looks like you guys had great fun.

It looks like you had a great time.  I'll bet you had a great view from up there!

The lawyers have made things like that not nearly as exciting as they seem.  I would bet that there is a significantly better chance of you being struck and killed by a car either entering or exiting the building than there is of you falling or otherwise causing you injury from a sky walk.  There is no way that any first world nation would allow something like this to be open to the public without safety features up the wazoo to keep anyone from getting injured or killed and the resulting settlements, lawsuits and bad press.  This is why rollercoasters, bungee jumping and other "thrill rides" really don't do much for me.

Still, I bet it was a hell of a view and I'd have appreciated it for that!

You were warned...

I gamble when I am out of the country... just a little bit, roulette, and I tend to win which is why I won't let myself do it here!

Nar doesn't apply to middle earth, here you can die falling, jet boats collide and fun rides may not be.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm pretty sure that orange jumpsuit will hide the yellow stains (not sure about the brown ones though ) ...

Awesome pic by the way  :tu:.

That may be, but jet boats aren't a static attraction.

Oh well, back in Oz after the trip to Middle Earth was over too quickly. Must have been Kirky's fault that it went so fast...

Hard to believe that scenery like this isn't just down the road anymore.

New Zealand is so beautiful, especially the South Island that my girlfriend was saying that you could point a camera in any direction and it was just about impossible not to take a stunning photo.
So I had to prove her wrong by photobombing a few of her shots.

These pics remind me of a recent episode of Salvage Hunter on Discovery Max where they went to Norway... looks like a really nice place to tour around...

Well this was a mad trip over some seas.  Filmed about a decade ago on a mobile phone, uploaded years later.

The Leatherman crunch.  One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass consumption. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

That skywalk does look amazing - I went up the sky tower but the walk was shut (night time) but on the plus side I won some coins in the casino after ;)

I am going back to NZ at Christmas (my girlfriends family live there) so I may just go back up during the day.

Your right about not being able to take a bad photo - NZ has just the most stunning views.
