Titaner Ti Pen mini-review with photos
on: December 12, 2011, 01:52:32 AM
I have been looking around a lot many pens, but almost all look aggressive, no matter what their claims are. While searching, I came across the Titaner brand, and they had the perfect pen I wanted - very normal looking, but tough to boot. Made entirely of titanium alloy (TC4), this is a lovely pen, and will ride in my pocket hopefully for quiet sometime now. What follows is a two week usability report, and I intend to update it as I use the pen.

The pen looks like a pen. The clip is robust and clips securely. The cap fits firmly on the body, and it takes some effort to pull it apart (I hope this will soften with usage). It is press-fit type, and there is no threading. The cap also does not attach to the body when writing due to the difference in diameters. The machining is top-notch, and the threads turn very smooth with no grittiness at all. The barrel is thick, and the entire pen weighs about 35 grams/1.23 oz (without the parker roller-ball refill), and is about 5 inches long. At the base there is a glass-breaker/attack point, but I am yet to use it for either purpose (and I doubt if I'll use it ever). It unscrews, and the threads here are very nicely machined as well. The pen comes in a velvet cover, and a parker fine-point roller ball refill.

Titaner was very quick at communication, and I received the pen within a week via DHL.  8)

Now for some eye candy...

Business end. Notice it sits flush with the barrel

That's a great looking pen and with my favorite refill too. I've been using a Parker Vector SS with the same roller ball refill for over 5 years now and love it. :tu:

I just wish it came in SS, Ti is a bit out of my price range.

PS Fix the link while you still can, It has a "http..." too much and leads nowhere, and is also in chinese. there's an english version too

It's a good looking pen, but it looks a little too ordinary in my opinion.
Previously on this forum someone surmised the believe in some people that it's ok to steal lighters and pens with no moral implications, if this is the case i would fear that this pen would suffer from such pilfering as it doesn't clearly identify it's true value, i'm sure none of us would take someone's pen if we knew it cost £45 but might 'borrow' one we thought wasn't worth much.

I did think of getting one of these however as i like the clip design and it looks well made but i don't like loose caps and the refill is unfamiliar to me.

For anyone who's interested TC4 is just the chinese designation for Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5).
Pictures of most of my work can be found on my Facebook Page.
Also have a look at my Shapeways Shop and SW Torch Shop for 3D printed items.

Standard rollerball refill.  Make 'em everywhere.

Nice pen, my preference is still my Rotring Freeway.  German made, solid anodized aluminum and costs $15 off of the 'Bay.

This looks very cool!  I have pretty much ignored the whole "tactical" pen thing because they have all looked a bit overdone, in my opinion.

This, however, looks very classy with an understated elegance.
