Oh, and +1 on the new smilies. We have a great selection but some new ones would be nice too, like (Image removed from quote.), (Image removed from quote.) , (Image removed from quote.) , (Image removed from quote.) and (Image removed from quote.) And others too. I'm sure Mat would appreciate it. :pok:

  That is SO true , I recently joined another forum  :o :o, to try & to find out what was going on with the new Aussie knife laws & that Aussie forum's selection of smilies is WOEFUL , so I hyper-linked some ones I liked in my posts & I had my arse publicly handed to me by a moderator for doing so  ??? ??? ???.

Ya gotta love MTO's friendly atmosphere

Travis I would love some MTO boxer shorts  8) 8) 8) ,my Aussie flag boxers have developed a rather revelling split in the crotch area  :ahhh, does not stop me wearing them though  >:D :D :D :D, my poor family  :P :D :D :D

With the new year coming on, it might be time to revisit the MTO Shot Glass idea.  Perhaps something in a more durable acrylic.

I have been noting the encouraging words for MTO promotional items.  Most, if not all, of them may be doable in time.  Keep tossing ideas and feel free to PM me with specific suggestions.  I am open to considering most things.

Anyone have an interest in MTO boxer shorts?  I think there may be a clearance sale at one of the apparel suppliers.
Oh yes, me please :D my partner in crime keeps moaning at my boring selection, all in the same same camo :o some MTO ones, as long as there not camo, would be fabulous :tu:

I like a lot of the suggestions here, especially the monthly paypal deduction.  I would gladly donate 3 bucks a month for my charter membership.  It would work out to more than the existing cost but I would be much happier with it and feel the cost much less.

I also like the idea of different "badges of honor" or titles.  It could be a fun way to spice up our current no lifer system.  Of course, being someone who is just over a thousand posts from the "Absolutely no life club" I really don't care either way.

I would like to see some new logo's or colors on the site.  Don't get me wrong, I love what we have, but I think a new logo in ADDITION to the one we have would be fun.

I would also like more merchandise.  I love the MTO stuff I have, and I would buy more if it were available.  I have already made one suggestion in the Charter member forum that is being thoroughly well received and Travis has made a great example of his quick work by getting a prelim quote going, so I know the team is already on this type of suggestion already.  (thanks by the way!)

The forum is fine but since you asked:

1. I mentioned it before but I think more Reviews need to be added to the main Multitool site, since they are easier to find there, instead of looking for them in the forums.

2. Add the possibility for viewing the forums using larger text, like they have, now, on Bladeforums.

3.  A shotgun section would be good since, I believe, it is easier to own and use one instead of a pistol or rifle in most countries. Or a general gun section, where all types of Firearms could be discussed...

4. Make it possible to attach more and larger pictures.

If you're using IE (only browser I know) you can always set the zoom level to 125% in the right bottom of the screen..  :)

I use that sometimes but it tends to make the viewing area larger than the screen.

I also have the text size set to Largest, but I think the Bladeforums system, still, gives better results.

Also on the phone, using opera, I do not have that function.

+1 for monthly donations for charter membership. thats sounds more affordable in the monthly term.

is it possible to have themes options for the forum like you can with phpBB, or is that not so easy with this SMF?

If it would be big mug I'd have one shipped all the way to Israel.
I can't stand small coffee mugs.

Maybe a MTO Travel mug (thermos?)
Or an MTO neck warmer. it's a polar fleece cylinder with a draw string at one end. you wear them around your neck like a scarf. And they can instantly be turned into a hat by pulling the draw string.
Just a random thought.

I've just read this thread fully and there's some great ideas here  :tu:

More emoticons and an MTO travel mug sound very appealing. Someone mentioned more reviews on the main site - I'd agree with that, it would be nice to have more than one person's take on the same tool in the same place, but I'd also like to see more data in the encyclopedia section. I've gone there a few times to find stuff to see a list of tools with only a few clickable links. If someone has the time to upload the data, I'm pretty sure ebtween us all we could get that absolutely bursting with info.

From a community perspective, this place is fantastic. Picking up on this point ...

What' wrong with our existing Outdoor Forum?

Def
I think he's talking about a section all it's own.
Outdoor:
 Sub: cycling
 Sub: hiking
 Sub: camping
Etc. I think.
Oh and to answer the question. It's just one sub category :(

The outdoor forum is under tool talk, and whilst that's the priimary reason we're here, but our conversations are far broader than that, and it might be nice for that forum to be wider than a tool focus. Maybe it's just my understanding that's slightly off, but if I was considering talking about some new gear that wasn't sharp and shiny I'd feel I ought to be putting it in the breakroom rather than the outdoors forum where it might get lost quite easily. Makes it easier to keep tack of associated conversation, if ALL outdoors topics were together. Similarly Steve's suggestion of a DIY forum where people can discuss how they tackled various challenges whether they used Multitools or dedicated tools.

If we're going to expand the "community" aspect of the forums, it would make sense to me to collate discussions on the outdoors, home DIY, office/city carry, tool heavy occupations or whatever in the same place even if they weren't all of a tool focus. It would be nice to see a greater crossover of posts of tools into the areas thy are used. For example Mr Whippy is a great source of info for seeing tools in action, but if he reviews how well his Charge ALX performs in an occpational thread rather than in the Leatherman forum some people might be less hesitant to compare similar tasks achieved with tools of other brands, or ask which sliding plier head tool might fit that type of job best.

Often I've held off making comments in some threads in brand specific forums, as I wanted to throw other tools into the mix and felt that cross brand questions or comparisons might not always be appropriate. It would be great to see several people all approaching similar tasks in completely different ways. It's not like the forum is rigid or stunts free discussion - far from it (one of the many things that makes this place so great), but this might help people look back on topics of similar task/environment themes rather than just comparisons of one Gerber to another. I'd like to see more discussions of how one guy prefers to use their Charge TTi for a task, while someone else prefers to use their SAK or even one piece tool for the same task. I suppose I'd just like to see less seggregation of brands and tool styles in topics of tool use

MTO underwear? Nah, I'll give that a miss personally. There seems to have bneen quite a bit of talk about velcro patches recently ... is that a fig leaf style alternative to the boxers? (OUCH!!)  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh BTW - do camo boxers make you look naked?

On the trade scoring system and EDCSource topic ... I often find myself looking at the trade forums OR at EDCSource. Frankly I'm far too dumb and lazy to remember to check both regularly. Would it be worth considering keeping the swap shop, deals and auctions and wanted tool sections on the forum and moving all actual sales of tools and miscellaneous items over to the auction site? Scoring system solved for the most part.

OK I'm waffling again - I'll shut up  :P

There are some great suggestions here- who would have thought this group would know what they want?  :D

Seriously- in regards to the Reviews on the Main Site, there is no reason for the vast majority of reviews to be written by me.  I posted the Main Site Review Format in hopes of getting more folks writing reviews for the Main Site.  There are a few that need to be moved over and it's on my list of things to do.

The Encyclopedia is also open for anyone to add info, pictures and so on.  As it is, Bob (J-Sews) has posted just about everything that's currently there and I'm sure he'd appreciate some help!

What do you all think of moving the Outdoor Forum to the Non Tool section so it seems more like an outdoor adventure type forum rather than an outdoor tool type forum?

The suggestion about moving all sales to EDCSource is something that the Mods and I have debated greatly.  As much as I would like to see more people using EDCSource, there are lots of folks who prefer the forum and might resent being "forced" to use it.  There have already been rumblings that I've pushed it too hard already.

At any rate there are some great thoughts here and I'm really enjoying reading them!

Now that you mention edcsource, I'd LOVE bigger, more detailed pics. Could we use some photo hosting service for them? Zhat's the main advantage of the bst over edcsource.

Another thought I had, which fits in with plans I know are already in development ...

Again on the mixing of brands in certain forums to compliment the brand specific sections - how about a multimedia section. At present this is for tools spotted in mainstream media, but it would be nice to get amateur videos in one place. Each thread could start wth a specific video either made by or recommended and linked by one of our members, with a thread of discussion pertaining to the content.

Having an area set aside for uploaded vids might encourage video production and posting on tools as well as give a framework to introduce official MTo vids into the mix. At the moment anyone wanting to see a vid review is probably going to hit YouTube and search there, whereas establishing a showcase arena here might help bring focus to MTo for vid reviews irrespective of where the video might be hosted - and indeed give greater flexibility for people who may wish to host their vids somewhere other than YT/Google.
