Addiction To Folders?
on: January 15, 2012, 03:56:03 AM
Is Anyone Else Here Addicted To Folders?
I Had Put It On The Back Burner And Went To SAK's.
While I Still LOVE My SAK's, I've Got Myself Stuck On Folders Again.

Once I Can Afford My Dream SAK I'll Probably Be Done For A While.

Anyways... Folders Lol. I've Especially Got The Spyder-Flu.
But I've Gotten Some Nice Knives And Have Also Let Some Go.
Recently Spydercos Are Something I'm Into... AGAIN.

I've Got:
Spyderco Tenacious
Spyderco UKPK
Spyderco Q
And My Newly Aqquired Spyderco Grasshopper From Our Own Paul.  :tu:

Incoming:
Spyderco Pride With Custom Blue Sculpted Micarta Scales
Spyderco Dragonfly SS With Neck Sheath

The Q May Be Going For A Spyderco Paramilitary 2 In Digi-Camo G-10 With Satin PE Blade!!!

I Just Find Myself LOVING Folders Lately, They're So Useful And I Think I've Got Someone Else Hooked On The Idea Of Knives Haha.

I Wish I Could Carry Them All!!

So Is Anyone Else Hooked?

Addiction To Folders?

I found a folder I'm very happy with, so the addiction has calmed down somewhat. Also, it might help that the girlfriend told me in no uncertain terms that if I bought another folder, I'd find all my knives and MTs in the trash the next time I went out.

Right now I'm hooked on MTs. They're so much fun to play with, and there's so much variety.

For me it's the exploration. It's not the ownership or the glory of the trophy after the hunt as it is with many here, it's more the adventure of things new. I've not bought many folders in the last twelve months, in fact the numbers have dropped as I've now found what works for me and gotten rid of many of the knives that do not suit me for whatever reason.

With SAK's and multitools that exploration is still continuing. I'm still learning what works for me, where, and why. I've reached a point where I need to clear out some of the items that do not gel for me so I can continue the process of discovery. Once SAKs and MTs have been understood enough and I have the right combinations for me that chase will slow but not stop, just like it has with knives. Instead I'll be exploring new topics such as lights or other items - but I'm pretty sure I'll still be kicking around here while I do so  :D

I want to experience lots of different knives and tools, but not own them all or seek out grail items. I do not feel any benefit from gathering and keeping things in a box, and while I understand the mindset of the collector and wish them happiness in their quest, I feel a benefit from using the tools and knowing I have the right combination of kit and knowledge for me. It's still very addictive but in a different way.

I am Folder Only...

I love folding knives...

Started with Tenacious and there got the S Bug... Allways been a fan of Benchmade also, so recently I got Mini Grip 555HG, love that little guy... Delica just passed trough my hands... I still have a Bug, Jester and Spin... Maybe I'll get some more, mainly looking for Dragonfly!

I see also some BM's I like, Mini Dejavoo, Mini Bone Collector...

Other than that I like slippies also Case Sodbuster (my primary EDC), Case Texas Jack... One custom made backlock, and few Vic's...

Been drooling over Strider PT, Mnandi and Sebenza Mini... But they're over my league!!!  :-\ :-\

I like knives in general, so I have an ever growing collection of folders and fixed blades. I find myself gravitating toward TiFramelocks, though I have a few of those that I don't much care for. I've got a handful of custom fixed blades, some of which are really nice.

Generally folders are more likely to be carried so I have more of them, though I may need to get rid of a few in the near future.

In answer to the OP question: Yes, I am definitely addicted to folders. (I don't even remember exactly what all I have anymore.)

Darn!! :o looks like my collection. I too am addicted to folders. I finally have gotten to a point where I'm content with what I have and don't have the urge to buy anymore. It took me a while but I've got enough quality folders ranging from one handlers to SAK's and traditional, I have enough knives for 5 lifetimes and I've plateaued. Many here have seen my collection, I've sold a lot but I have retained all my favorites. Is there a solution to the addiction? Nope, just keep buying and playing till your happy with you got. Oh and share your finds with us on here of course. ^-^

I don't have an addiction, I can quit whenever I want!  ::) I went on a Spyderco run at the end of the year, but now that that is out of my system, I'm starting to look in other directions. I just ordered a Case Sodbuster Jr, and am thinking about a couple other slippies as well. Oh, and 7 SAKs since January 1st.
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

No addiction. I just wish I knew where to put them all...

This should be most of mine. I know some got left out of the pic, like the 940 that slide back into my pocket before I took the shot. It was supposed to be next to the 915.
