The big 4, or any manufacturer for that matter, can average all this information and get a good idea of what the public is going to read about when they come here, and I know they do because I have had friends ask me if I'VE ever heard of this place.

Who is the big four?  Gerber, Leatherman, SAK, 4th?

The new Gerber MP600ST (sight adjustment tool) looks great.    I need one for the range

SMKW has them in stock; it felt like a solid bit of kit; I'm impressed with how they did the true-3D Phillips and other quasi-outboard tools. :tu:

I did!!

Sadly I haven't had a chance to play with it much though. Overall build construction and fit & finish seems to be as good or perhaps even better than any Gerber I've ever handled. :salute: And that handle cut out allowing for the 3-D phillips......why didn't someone think of that a long time ago? :ahhh

If they made a civilian version by replacing the sight adjustment tool with a standard hex bit adapter, I'd get one.

Actually, since the sight adjustment tool is removable, I don't see why they don't start with a hex bit adapter, and put a hex shank on the removable sight adjustment tool. Best of both!

Very cool Bob. 8)  I'm still loving the look of that Phillips driver as well. :tu:

Cool tool - Is that a true MP 600 sibling or did they use a Diesel Frame (top rivets, blade and plier head look like a Diesel to me)

Good question- I consider it a true MP600 sibling since it is made in the USA.

It's definitely MP600, including the plier head. :salute: But good eye, they have indeed changed the handle pivot and lock release levers to somewhat resemble those of the diesel.

I was misled by the newly  designed needle nose head (my brothers older MP 600 has a simpler head design) and the details you mentioned. Any chance for a MP 600 / Diesel side by side shot?!

Here you go. In all cases, the Diesel is on the left, new MP600ST is center, and regular MP600 is on the right.

Notice the plier head on the new MP600ST is the same as the standard MP600, they just changed the handle pivot.

Looks like the MP600ST blade lock releases are just like the Diesel though:

Cheers for the comparison pics Bob.  It is a weird hybrid thing isn't it?

Hybrid yes, but weird not so much. Seems like Gerber simply took the best features from the MP600 and Diesel and combined them :tu:

Me too!  I think that might be just what I was looking for, for my next MT  :tu:

That would make it even better as I also have no use for a sight tool.  I'd even be happy if you could get it with a #2 Robertson bit instead of the sight tool.

If you wanna talk "hybrid" cross-breeding, how about how Leatherman is doing a Gerber-style out-the-front tool, while Gerber is apparently trying to take on the LM MUT's market. Where the military markets are concerned, at least, the gloves are officially off!

Actually, Gerber has been supplying a number of tools to military organizations for years.  In fact, Gerber even beat out Leatherman for a military contract years ago with their first butterfly opening tool, the MPT.

So basically Gerber not only makes a better Gerber than Leatherman, they also made a better Leatherman than Leatherman!  :P

Oh, I know about Gerber's military contracts. But this new Multi-Plier seems much more weapon-oriented, with the carbon scraper and sight adjustment tool, and hence a direct competitor to the MUT specifically.

I'd hate to say that Gerber is copying Leatherman by making a firearms specific multitool since there have been a lot of them in the past, and long before Leatherman started doing them.  Multitasker, Caspian and others all did it long before Leatherman did.

Also, I really don't care for the MUT so I'd probably say that Gerber did it better, if indeed you could compare a full sized tool like the MP600ST with a large tool like the MUT.

I'm very pleased to see them still working on the MP600 line, and I hope the longer Phillips and sleek lock tabs make it on to the rest of the range. :)

Me too gareth as i dont like the stubby phillips they use ,so would be interested to see if they add this to there other models  :tu:

That long phillips should be added to all models, might finally be able to use it for something.  My favorite was the model with interchangable heads, loved the cable shears.
