I still think you could shift a few on a fishing forum.

Call it a "tactical Swiss hook dislodger" :P :P

Will that remove the hook from the back of my Climber?
Negative. The Tactical Swiss hook dislodger, can not take out a Tactical Assault Parcel Hook.

Today's work was on a big alox monster with brass liners.

I like to use long brass rods for fitups before I use the finished scales or tools.  All the Vic parts in this picture are all from my fit up parts and are ones that used solely for fitups.  I dont use the same tools I will deliver on a custom so they remain in perfect condition until final assembly.

The springs and liners are the only finished part I am making at this stage.  Here is what the back looks like before I work on the springs.  Notice the custom spring I make is not finished at this stage.  It actually sits proud of the other springs and I grind it flush and then finish all springs at that time.

The result is a nice uniform looking back, with my custom spring blending right into the stock springs.  I polish them all the same along with the liners for a high end fit and finish.

Understandably I get alot of people asking to buy springs from me for the scissors layer, but I dont sell them since they arent ready to use as is.  I finish them as part of the build, so that is why they are not a ready to go part.

Here is the big blue monster all finished up.

Cheers!

That is about as close to a perfect tool layout in a SAK I could ask for.

Could you PM me what that would cost me just for future reference.  :salute:

Hmmm tough call.  If I was following cellidor naming conventions this would be a pioneer camper.  If it was up to me though... I like Pioneer Homesteader! :D  Or maybe a homesteader might need scissors too... hmmm  :D

Nice to see the technique.
Doesn't it work out cheaper to buy them though, factoring in your time etc? For example:
http://www.seastrom-mfg.com/washerresults.aspx?pl=round+flat+washers&pc=washers,+flat+round&qs=5720&sp=wb_getallwasherdetailsbylinecatpnp&ct=5720:++Phosphor+Bronze+Round+Flat+Washer

They dont have the size I need, but if they were cheap enough maybe.  I need ID 0.125, OD 0.300 and thickness 0.005.  A whole sheet of this is only a few dollars and time to make is maybe 20 minutes for quite a few (40 something in this case) so a few pennies per washer and 30 seconds of time (20 minutes for 40).

I buy sheets in 0.005, 0.010. 0.015 0.020 in phosphor bronze, nickel silver and brass so that I can make whatever type and size of washer I need when I need it.  It works out fine as long as I make lots at once.  It would not be a good use of time to only make enough for whatever SAK I was building at the time.

I used to buy them from usaknifemaker, but I still had to turn down the OD anyhow, so now its just as easy to make them from sheet stock.

Using the zip ties to have them upright and fully covered by the "dip"?...

Ah you guys guessed.  :D  I guess maybe it was more obvious than I thought.

My old system was just to use a flat spatula but the scales would fall off if I wasn't careful.  I wanted to stand them on edge so the stripping solution can get access to both sides and get a nice even removal of the anodize.

The plastic cage keeps them upright and held on there.  The potato masher style makes it easier to dunk then the spatula.

I've got a few to get going.  I was nice and stocked up on all the colors but im about out of blue and green.  :D

I have been giving the USPS a big thumbs up so far, since over the last 3 years of shipping out SAKs to the US, none gone lost or damaged... until last week!    >:(

It looks like someone bloody stabbed the package, or swung a pickaxe?  Is that standard USPS procedure? We like to take a few swings with a pickaxe into the mail just to see what happens....

The customer was happy to swap scales himself to repair the problem so I shipped him out an new set of scales and he is happy.

I guess I shouldn't complain about 1 damaged package in 3 yrs, but wtf...

That's unfortunate
Did they put it on an Air Canada plane ? Still a good record to only have one damaged item, and still none lost in all those you've sent out.

Hey, I'm that guy!! I'm very happy indeed. When I first noticed that mark I thought to myself maybe I can live with it, after all this knife was to be a user. A replacement for a well worn red cadet. But there was just something about it that bothered me. You know new knife and all. Anyway Syph007 immediately offered to make it right even though it wasn't his fault. The man will have more of my business as soon as I can save the cash for my next mod. I been very busy but will get some pics up as soon as I'm able. In the mean time I'm carrying this beautiful tool every day at work and loving it.
