I picked up a florist SAK a while back for the sheepsfoot blade.  The idea is that I want to make an alox whittler and figured I'd give that blade a try.

PTRSAK already said the pivot hole was larger than normal, and it sure it.  Must be somewhere around 3.5mm or a bit bigger even as my 1/8 pivots are too small.

Anyways, so this means it needs a bushing.  I took some 1/8 brass rod stock and put it through and beat it until it spread out and filled the gap.  No need to peen if you try this, just hit flat and hard as you want to mushroom the pin itself inside the gap.  I trimmed the ends off with my jewelers saw and then sanded flush.  Now to carefully drill a hole the right size and we're in business.

(Image removed from quote.)
That is an awesome sheepsfoot blade.  Is it possible to still buy them?

4 hole alox style would be just fine!

The other benefit of the Alox type scales for a 91 is the reduced thickness.

Here are a couple more new parts I made up last night.

Technician long screw driver from can opener.

And serrated 93mm blade, for a dual bladed SAK with one plain edge and one serrated blade.  I did this freehand and it turned out way better than I expected.  Sharpened on my sharpmaker and it tears through cardboard, so Im happy with the result!

I have a bunch of solo blades from back in the early days when I bought solos as spring donors to put scissors on.  So I think those blades will all turn into serrated blades.

I love the serrated blades!  :tu:

It would be so nice to get a 2 layer sak with both plain and serrated blades.

Good use of a myfirst blade too!  I have a few of those from buying economy my firsts to get the 84mm saws.

I clamped the blade in a vice then used a diamond drum dremel bit.  I tried a small one first but the serrations were too small.  I think I could have gone bigger, more swiss tool rescue blade size, but the size I did works fine.

Fro what I know a serrated blade is not V-shaped. Did you grind the backside flat first?

Nope those are just drum cuts made at about a 20 degree angle from one side only.  You will get a big bur on the other side, that I then ground off when my belt sander, the just sharpened it on the sharpmaker.  I will clean up the goovs by wet sanding them with a small mandrel and fine grit, then they can be polished.

I'm lucky in that I have a Serrated Recruit blade sitting in my parts box, I've been planning to get that fitted into a Plain&Serrated two blader too.

 Or it could go into a 91mm along with the florist blade, now there is an interesting toolset.

Small-----------Large
Cap Lifter-----Sheepsfoot
Saw
Serrated--------Can Opener

No idea how springs would work out with this

I was thinking, it would be cool for some of our heavy modders (i.e. Syph) to stock up on Pioneers etc in lieu of the changes luming at Vic.  Not that I suspect the Pioneer to be discontinued but you never know.  Bottom line is I'd hate to see all these cool mods to cease because of lack of scales.

I keep buying 10 more pioneers when Im out of one color run, so I seem to have about a 50 pioneer float at any given time.  :D  I try not to mentally add up how much money Ive got tied up in parts, but I like to be stocked up so there isnt much choice.

Now.. if they do kill off the alox all together, I do have a plan B.  What I would do it make my own alox scales and springs, and then just use tools from 91mm SAKs to build them.  The only parts Id really have no source of any longer would be the inline awl, but I could make one up if needed.  Regardless as long as I can mill Al, anodize it and make springs there will always be alox scaled SAKs as long as im still modding.  :D

Ok I got to thinking about the SAK parts, and I do have quite a few.  :D

I keep all my parts in plastic bins.  These are all new parts, I have a bucket of used msc parts out in the shop that I use for experimenting, but only use the good stuff for building customs.

The stack on the left are each a different scale color. The rest are all parts.

Here are the 91mm parts.

And here are the 93mm goodies.

I have a tackle box where I keep all my 84mm parts, and other msc parts like my colored liners and some special scales for personal projects.

So many parts to make cool things I just need more time! :D

Against my better judgement, Im fitting a layer of plastic parts onto on alox frame.  That lite module is a horrid piece of flimsy junk.  It cant be its made in switzerland, no way.

Maybe they were prizes in swiss cereal boxes and after one particular bad bender, and while eating morning cereal and nursing a headache, the idea to put one in a swiss army knife was born.

Seriously though, plastic parts on an alox SAK...  ??? When I finish this mod I wont ever be using one of the lite modules again, but I may build one with a metal frame in the future.  Although really is there any need for a light in a SAK where there are a large variety of keychain flashlights available...
