What does your partner collect?
on: January 27, 2012, 06:38:17 PM
Just curious to find out whether your significant other has a hobby of his/her own.

Or is she still going crazy over celebrities, or too busy with pets/kids/work?

If he/she has some sort of collection, does it complement your MT, knives, or flashlight collection?

For example, she collect keychains and you two trade items like one-piece tools, etc.

example two, you have hunting knives and she has kitchen knives and you two exchange tips on sharpening...

Maybe her handbags already cost more than your SAKs!!!

Tell us about it! Pics would be nice too!
You have the right tool... but do you know how to use it the right way?

Mine is into books.  I read a lot too, but I switched to ebooks almost ten years ago and have only gotten a handful of paper books since then.  My wife on the other hand always said she preferred paper and so we have bookshelves and boxes overflowing with books- mostly Oprah books and similar type topics and cook books.  She's recently switched to ebooks as well (thankfully!) but she still blows a fair bit at Chapters anyway.

If we lived in the country we'd probably also collect dogs- we have two now, but only because we live in the city and I refuse to have more since that would mean the tenants in the building could have more as well.

Handbags.  She does keep one of her SAKs in her bag, so there is a little crossover there. :D

Mine collects money.  Seriously, she is 7 months pregnant and I caught her trying to bend down to pick up a dime off the ground the other day.  I got it for her of course.  She hates spending money so bad that she will go without socks!  Her socks die a long slow death before she buys a new pack.

She has no real hobbies other than my son and saving money.  She reads sometimes, and watches a few girly shows on TV, but she would rather spend her time watching our bills and financials than collecting anything.

It's really a blessing!

Interesting!

Shoes and books can take up a lot of space! I think books are more of a headache when moving house since they can be quite heavy. But I still prefer physical books than e-books.

Yeah Gareth I was thinking those into bags you can use them as storage bags for your tools  :P

dks, no problem with that. They can always share what their other family members collect. :)

Ok Mercury, it's a blessing only if she shares the money with you :D

You have the right tool... but do you know how to use it the right way?

My father in law is worse than that.  The sock thing is funny though, as my father in law never wears matched socks.  If one wears out (and I mean really worn out, as he wears them with no heels or toes) he eventually gets rid of it and wears the other one with the healthy one of another pair whose mate has worn out.  I'll admit I do something similar, but as I usually only buy one kind of sock (arthritis in the foot coupled with a cold wet winter makes you conscious of the difference the right pair of socks make) which means they all still match.

He also unplugs the cable box when they aren't watching TV so that he can save the money that the small green LED is burning.  I think it's false economy though, because the box takes about 5 minutes to boot up so you can watch TV, and I imagine that's using more power than the LED on standby would!

Well, my better half is into Stamps. She loves collecting stamps of all sorts. She goes through spurts though with it. Might go for months without ever buying a stamp or going through her collections, next thing you know she's got collections coming to her and she is into sorting them out and getting them stored in her binders and stuff.

She is really into reading, burns through books like you wouldn't believe. I got her one of them Kindle's Christmas before last and now she reads even more. And now she is doing the thing of listening to books, downloads them to her Ipod!

She also has a thing for purses and shoes......not a month goes by where she hasn't gotten a couple new pairs of shoes as well as a purse or two.

She also goes through spurts with needlework and knitting.

2xTap, does she share her stories with you? I mean not just book stories, but like how she got the stamps, background, history and stuff. I think that can be really lovely.

BTW, it's strange that no one around me has a collection of any sort! Seems like all they does is facebook these days... and we're not teens anymore too.

Oh yes, the stuff she has that has some interesting backgrounds and is old. She knows I am somewhat of a history buff so when she gets stamps and the like with some historical related story or were made to honor some significant event she fills me in on them. Plus, my Dad is a stamp collector, so when these two get into the same room I kind of get stuck in the middle of such conversations.

As far as her book stuff, no. She is into adult type romance novels and Vampire stuff.......and not the BLADE/UNDERWORLD kinda vampires, more love story vampire crap. The kind of stuff I really dislike. She keeps that stuff to herself.

I have got to have fresh socks in good condition all the time, I just can't go without them.  My feet being comfortable is more important than any thing else apparel wise.

I will wear my jeans until the fall off though.  Seriously, my wife had to overnight 3 pairs to us because I let all of my jeans get so hole-y and worn out that the crotches of 4 pairs split in as many days.  Once that happens I can't wear them, but I have been known so sew them back up multiple times, which had happened to half of these already.  They were so worn that you could hold them up to the light and see right through all the seams.

My wife doesn't collect things, per se, but she sews, bakes and crochets. It's not a bad group of hobbies - the kids get clothes, she gets dresses and I get cake :D

She's a chiropractor by trade, but is also a city councillor, which is certainly something she does for the love, not the money.

Between all that and being mother to my two sons, blonde and a D cup... I'm pretty lucky!

I would say you are pretty lucky!  Mine is the same way, though she is a dirty blond, her hair gets darker in the winter.
