Hello all :)
on: February 06, 2012, 07:20:11 PM
Just signed up after reading some awesome reviews, and wanted to take a minute to say hello and introduce myself :)
I'm 33, married, and live in the UK. I've had an interest in pen knives since the first time I watched an episode of Macgyver as a child, had a fairly chunky SAK for scouts and camping which got lost somewhere, and for the last few years, my EDC was a Victorinox Spartan. A recently renewed interest in camping and survival skills lead to me retiring the Spartan, and instead, carrying a small, unbranded multitool (for the life of me, I can't remember where I bought it from) Probably cost less than a dollar to make in China, but so far, it's met every challenge I've thrown at it :) I've made a few modifications to it recently, by filing the jaws of the pliers to give a narrower needle-nosed profile, filed two of the folding tools which I couldn't identify into a precision flathead screwdriver, and a toothpick/braddle, and modified the bottle opener by sharpening the inner curve to form a belt cutter, as well as adding an edged notch to form a wire stripper. The outer handles need to be opened to access the inner tools, much like a Leatherman Micra, and can be flipped open one-handed like a balisong. The cutting blade is about 1.5 inches, and none of the tools lock, which I am greatful for due to UK knife legislation (which will prevent me from owning a decent branded multitool) I have three other multitools in my collection: One which has a knife, saw blade, philipshead screwdriver, combined flathead screwdriver/bottle opener and LED torch, all accessible while the plier handles are closed, but the one thing it lacks, which puts me off having it as my EDC, is a can opener... Another larger multitool I bought for camping/survival use has a knife blade, a saw which also features the nail file and flat head screwdriver, a can opener (which I had to modify myself so it would actually work) and a philipshead head screwdriver like on a SAK, but the main reason I bought it, is because the sides of the pliers form the head of a hammer, with nail-pulling hooks on the opposite edge of the head. The final multitool is too large for EDC, and while it unfolds to a nice pair of pliers, the other folding tools are pretty disappointing repetition of flathead screwdrivers in various sizes. The cutting blade is about 2.5 inches long. The one redeeming feature it does have, in addition to rubber grip areas on the handles, is a fold out square bolt about 4mm square which can be fitted into a magnetic socket, which can then be fitted with various small screwdriver and hex bolt heads. Seeing as there is a mod section, I might see if anyone might be able to do anything with it at some point.
Other than that, I enjoy tattooing and collecting watches :)

Welcome to MTO

I fixed your links a bit.

You should just copy/paste the last of the 4 links you get from photobucket, no editing required.

Much appreciated, thanks :) They've recently changed their setup, and I'm still getting to grips with it :)

Thanks :tu:  I picked it up just before Christmas in a local budget supermarket for £5.99. I figured having the hammer would be a useful tool if out in the woods :) I had to hacksaw a good 10-12mm off the tip of the can opener though, as when I tried to use it, the length of the blade would overlay the rim of the tin, so it couldn't bite in, but cutting it back, it now works fine :)
PS It's branded 'Workzone', but I doubt that means anything, I expect it was made in China, like everything else I own :D
