Fight a mountain lion with a pocket knife!
on: February 08, 2012, 07:30:34 PM
From the video, it was a some sort of OHO lock-blade.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/02/boy-6-survives-mountain-lion-attack/
“It had a hold of his face. The cat was clamped on his face,” Jason Hobbs, Rivers’ father,  told KOSA-TV. “ reached down and got my knife out and stabbed the cat in the chest and let it go at that point

Hope the kid recovers well.

But hey even if he has a scar, he'll have a cool story to get all the girls when he's older.

Good thing it didn't happen at school because then the kid would have been expelled!

Another reason why people should carry firearms. The kid is lucky and the father reacted quick and efficiently.  :tu:

I dunno, you may not want to shoot it when it had your kid in its mouth.

Agreed. But maybe you could pistol-whip the cat and then shoot it when it lets go?  :P

Here's a post the dad posted on spyderco forums with his pics of the knife after the fight.

I think I'd rather have a dog looking after my kids than a guy with a gun or knife any day.

Ohh, Boston Bar is a town's name. I thought it's about something else when I saw the word "bar" and "cougar" in the URL.

I wonder if that dog thinks, I get in the path of a charging cougar to save your butt and what do you do, call 911 while I'm being gnawed on for minutes :ahhh

Something like this?

 :D

Back on topic though, while I like golden retrievers as much as the next guy (just happened to be playing with my boss' golden just this morning!) they aren't what I would consider to be a tough guard dog, and yet they are willing to toss themselves into the fray for their pack.

It just goes to show that the least dog is better than the best cat!  :P

Adapt, improvise, overcome. Glad the kid got through that.

Turtles have been unchanged on this planet longer than mammals have existed.  Compared to turtles, this whole warm blooded thing is just a fad, so don't mess with them!
