Terrible.  48 is way too young to die, for anyone.  I remember listening to her when I was younger, not much but the memory is there.  Prayers for her.

Strange. I was looking at pictures of her in the papers out in the town yesterday and she looked OK. Waste of a voice......

At the risk of sounding insensitive, with the domestic abuse issues (both ways- her beating Bobby Brown and him beating her, not necessarily in that order), coupled with the hardcore drug abuse, is anyone really surprised?  For me the only surprise is that she lasted this long.  Let's hope that Bobby Brown and their daughter (and others) are smart enough to learn from this.

Dying at 48 is tragic, as is anyone living with a long term drug addiction, but there's a reason there are so many treatment programs out there.

What gets me is know one gave a crap about her last week..now she is a golden saint, everyone is doing a tribute to her, lighting candles in rememberance and such. Next week prosecutors will go after her source of drugs blaming everyone but her for her substance abuse problems.

Also MSNBC says cause of her death is unknown (really?) We all know in 6 weeks when the autopsy comes back it will be...oh drugs..how shocking.

Someone should have told her: "Houston, you have a problem".

I know she had plenty of problems, but could we please show a little respect for someone that has passed. No reason to bash her here if you didn't before she died.

That's the way it always is with deaths in general, not just celebrity deaths.  It's just more pronounced when it's a celebrity.

Besides, I doubt it will be drugs, they will probably spin it as fatal exhaustion or heart attack resulting from her intense schedule of not touring and recording.

I know she had plenty of problems, but could we please show a little respect for someone that has passed. No reason to bash her here if you didn't before she died.

I never cared for her to begin with.  I agree though that there's not much point in bashing her.

There's a lot of obvious points that people will make about the f-ed up part of her life. But I guess that doesn't change the fact and i just cant take the "oh who cares, screw her" attitude when i know that there is a daughter who lost her mom etc. it's sad when anyone dies and it deserves some respect in my view. Will i watch or read about all the fanfare or the grammys? No... But its still sad.

I've always said it don't matter who the person is or what they have done in life even the convicted worse of the worse they still leave behind a mom, dad, wife, kid(s), someone who probably cares. I don't care who you are or what you've done I will still feel for the family left behind to mourn your passing.

Like her music, did not care for her lifestyle, it is sad though.

Her and the other 5,000 to 10,000 people who died from drug related deaths on Saturday should definitively be remembered.

Just to let you know, when I kick the bucket I fully expect you all to throw one hell of a party.  Please feel free to pour a drink on my grave, even if it means you have to filter it through your kidneys.

And, feel free to say what you really think of me... not that you need to wait until I'm dead to do that.

My healthy life habits?  Hell, I'm surprised my arteries haven't hardened so much that I'd shatter if I ever fell down!

Besides, I'm looking forward to kicking it- there are some excellent dogs waiting for me on the other side.

Someone here is bound to die from their multi-tool habit. It starts where you just have one at home... Then you have one every day, then sometimes it doesn't matter when or where or even how many you can handle or carry at one time. Pretty soon your judgement is so impaired that you're flipping your tool open and closed while you're on a dark dangerous set of stairs with a tonka truck on a step you hadn't bothered to notice because you're fixated on where you're going to get your next fix.... Sad:)

Anyone losing a battle to substance abuse (directly or indirectly) is tragic, as were certain other aspects of her life. Domestic abuse and substance abuse are not things to be joked about. However ...

I will be very glad when we've got through the tribute phase. There are only so many 80's power ballads I can tolerate at any given time. About one actually. How the radio hasn't decided to "self-terminate" by now is beyond me - maybe it's got an evil sense of humour and likes to hear us scream "For smurf's sake - not another one"

May Whitney and her music rest in peace, and best wishes to all directly affected by either

Well said Ash.  Any loss of life is terrible, no matter the circumstances.  Even if that person put themselves in the situation to lose their life, it is still a sad occurrence.

Never particularly cared for her music, but I've never liked pop music much anyway.  Regardless, a shame that she ended up the way she did.  A shame that anyone would end up in such a way.

Here in NJ, there was talk that the family wanted to use the Prudential Center in Newark for the funeral, holds 18,000 people! That's not happening, the service will be private. The Gov. has ordered that State flags be lowered to half mast for her, which I find ridiculous. A young man from NJ, a 20-year-old Marine Lance Corporal, was killed in Afghanistan a few days ago.  If anyone should have the honor of having the flag at half-staff, it should be this Marine who gave his life in the service of his country, not some shot-out singer.
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D
