yes, check your cookies, I changed something there... so perhaps log out, delete cookies, clear cache, then relog in with "forever" and see if that sorts it.

I haven't had a chance to barely look at SwissArmyKnights with all the other stuff on my plate.

Excellent, that seems to have fixed it, at least on FF at home.

Thanks!  :salute:

You and me both....

I was going to write them a long detailed letter on how much I dislike them, but we'll see what, if anything they come back with.  If they push the issue, I'll rip them a new one.

My response:

Quote
Dear Serverloft Team,

I am amazed that you feel the need to ask why I have cancelled my account with you- perhaps you are wondering which of the straws I’ve had is the one that broke the camel’s back?  Here is a rundown of the issues I have had with your company, and why I am moving on.  Please feel free to choose any individual ones as a reason for leaving, or take them as a whole.

•   On or about the 26th of August this year my server was shut down due to illegal activity.  One of my sites was hacked, although I was unaware of any issues at the time.  Rather than inform me so I could have my technical staff deal with said issue, Serverloft immediately shut down my server and waited almost 24 hours to tell me why.  After several accusatory and insulting emails over a few days, the job that could have been done in about 5 minutes (in the words of Serverloft Support Team Member William Blaize, not ours) took almost three days to fix since you would not allow my technical staff access to the server, or identify the problem in a reasonable amount of time.
•   One week after the above incident my server was shut down again for the same reason as above, despite the issue having been resolved.  After several more rude and accusatory emails over another day from your representatives, the problem was eventually determined to be that your staff is incapable of reading a date, as the reports they were responding to were from the previous week.  And, for putting up with the idiocy of your staff, I was not even awarded any discount or compensation for lost time.
•   In each of the above instances every email was ended with the threat of shutting down my server and deleting all information contained on it.  The sites on that server reflect several years’ worth of work for not only myself but a great many others, and much of the information you were wantonly going to delete is unavailable anywhere else.  The callousness involved in respecting a client’s intellectual property was (and still is) extremely insulting, and I am a very difficult person to insult.
•   In another instance (and I apologize, I do not have a date for this one) shortly after I had contracted with your agency and was making arrangements to alter my finances to incorporate your billing cycle I was about two days late with my payment, and my server was summarily shut down.
•   Two recent incidents also make the list- the most recent being your changes to the Paypal payment system, and your subsequent inability to accept Paypal payments through your own Paypal account.  Despite payment having been made on time in February I had gotten emails from your company claiming (as usual) that if payment wasn’t made immediately the server would be disconnected.  Despite forwarding information from Paypal regarding the payment, I continued to get collection emails from you.  At one point I even called Paypal customer service to request information on the pending payment and find out if there was anything I could do to expedite matters.  The representative on the phone informed me yet again that the payment was in your account, and that all that was required was for someone with access and authority on the Serverloft Paypal account had to click a small icon marked “ACCEPT.”  For this I endured several emails and threats of disconnection from your company, despite having sent your agents clear instructions from Paypal.
•   The last issue I will offer you as a reason for leaving your company is perhaps the most damning of all.  Regardless of whether or not this is intentional, I find it unacceptable.  My contract calls for a server with 4 gigabytes of RAM.  While interviewing a new potential server host it was discovered that my sites, my BUSINESS, was running with only 2 gigabytes of RAM.  This could simply be a technical issue with faulty RAM, but as there has been no appreciable change in my server function for some time, I have to wonder how long I have not been getting what I am paying for from your company.  When I approached your technicians with this information I was told that in order to heck this, the server had to be shut down.  I’m not a technician myself, and I don’t understand many of the inner workings of a server, but I’m quite certain that if an independent agent working in another country can access a server in your care to check it’s specifications without shutting the server down, I’m not sure why your in house people cannot.  Additionally, given how much downtime I experience on a regular basis with your service, I was not prepared to allow your technical staff to shut down my server yet again.
These are just the major issues pulled from the top of my head.  If you would like I am certain I can think of a few more if I put some effort into it, and I can provide copies of all communications I have had with your company and its agents in the past.

While I am certain the person reading this has nothing to do with any of the above issues, I would suggest that he/she feel free to use very strong wording on my behalf when passing along the key points of this letter, particularly when referring to William Blaize, Oliver Busch, Barry Sasser, Ingo Petig and Ingo Viggen.

In fact, I have been interviewing replacement agencies for some time, and the only reason I have been a Serverloft customer this long is largely due to a mixture of complacency and other distractions.  Sadly, at no point has your company ever provided any positive experiences to change my overall opinion, and not only will I never conduct any business with your company again, I will discourage as many others as I can from doing so as well.

Yours Sincerely,
Grant Lamontagne
Formerly of Server4866

I hadn't realized I was responding to one of the people I'd named in my "strong words" section.  Just imagine the look on his face when he (or she- is Ingo a man's or woman's name?) reads they are on the list of people pulled specifically from our account issues.   :ahhh

Not that I give a damn.

There's a good possibility that there was 4G in the server and that a 2G stick burned out.  I have no idea, and quite honestly, I don't give a rat's ass.  The fact is, however it happened, we were paying for it and not getting it.

Did you notice any performance or load issues?
2 GB really isn't much even for one site, let alone several, like you have.

So far it seems the new company is very good.  They are friends of Whoey's so hopefully that will help smooth out the occasional misunderstanding and motivate them to make us a high priority in case of major issues!  :D

Nah, I reckon THAT response is a delayed response from your previous request to cancel the account, which once again somone picked up after the issue was already sorted - tried to cancel it and failed.

The letter you sent, if it hasn't overloaded their defunkt servers will have flumoxed their inept staff, and based on track record to date will not be responded to that quickly. My guess is that you may get a response after you have to send it to them again when they send you the next bill for the account which they haven't got logged down as cancelled. At that point someone will try to cancel the already cancelled account and send you a courtesy email to say they cannot cancel the account as it has already been cancelled, followed up by yet another stuffed crusted dimwit whose head buttons up the back attempting to do the same thing and advising you accordingly a week later.

As neither of these people will have enough intelligence to realise they are indeed stupid, the account arrears for the previously cancelled account will continue into the next month due to nobody updating the payment systems. Should you ignore subsequent requests for payment of an already cancelled account, their technicians will have no option but to suspend your cancelled account and delete the information which no longer exists, and as we all know double negatives equate to a positive which may in turn lead to a full reinstatement of the cancelled account with free server capacity and unlimited access to their profound incompetence ad infinitum.

Anyone else need an Asprin or is it just me?

I got a recent letter from my motorcycle insurance company when I cancelled the policy as I sold the motorcycle.  They sent a bill for $170.00, but because we had already paid it in full, they said we did not owe anything but were due a $83.00 refund.  It had me going for a while until I figured out what they were trying to say.  Sometimes these companies just make things more difficult to understand, as they figure they have to dumb down all their correspondence so EVERYONE understands it.  LOL

Here's a bill for $170, but don't worry about paying it because we are also sending a cheque for $83.  Makes perfect sense...   ::)

I've had that happen with income tax, I filed for a few years all at once (when I went to school) and on a couple of them I owed a small amount(~$25), which I had to pay IMMEDIATELY or else, before they would issue a cheque for a rather nice (~$1000) amount due to me. :ahhh :twak:

And my response:

Hello Thomas,

I have to say that I am somewhat amazed that you would have the audacity to contact me after the experiences I had with your company.  I would say that there is likely not any amount of free "service" you could offer me that would convince me to ever do any business with Serverloft again.  Of course, I understand that this is merely a form letter sent out to completed accounts, but hopefully this response will come to your attention and you can do me the honor of purging my contact information from your records.  As you may not have been involved in the initial fiasco that lead me to sever ties with your organization, I went to the effort to look up my original termination notice for you.  Perhaps you will take the time to review it and hopefully address these problems for future customers.

I thank you very much for your interest in my business, and I wish you all the best in yours.  I can guarantee you, the two will never meet again.
