The Recon and Voyager series of Cold Steels are probably the best, most functional folders they have in the catalogue.

Just be careful of the handle scales - they will shred pants if you use the pocket clip.

The Voyager has very aggressively textured g10.  I'm not sure about the Recon.

Both have near ridiculously textured G10.

They are not cheap,I found a tanto recon at BudK for $59.00. Also thinking about a BlackHawk Crucible 2.

I have the tanto and clip point Recons. Their great knives. Big blades with the ridiculously strong Tri-ad lock. If you don't like the aggressive g-10 30 seconds with some 2000 grit wet dry sand paper will take care if it. Also spend sometime and scrape off the black coating that Cold Steel uses and you'll have a blade with a really nice stone wash finish.

The recons are great knives for the money. The locking mechanism works great and it is tough.
The only drawback I see is that the G10 handles are very very sharp and if you don't sand it it will shred you pocket

I don't know much about the Recon...but I recently purchased a Rajah II and a Rajah III and both have proven to be excellent knives..The two knives have lived up to the hype in my opinion..The Triad Lock is stout and tight!...Both knives have cut through the materials I have put under the edges..For the record I have not nor will I ever attempt to duplicate or surpass the tests shown in the "Proof Videos"...I have not pampered these knives either though..I am very pleased..Pleased enough that I ordered in a Spartan to slpit the difference in size between the II and the III...

I'm a fan of Cold Steel generally, and the Recon 1 specifically.  They are pretty beefy, with a killer lockup, and not too spendy.  The G10 does shred the pocket, but if you remove the clip and hit the G10 with some sandpaper for 30 seconds, its all good.  The teflon blade coating wears off almost instantly, but I like the look of a well worn blade.

You can see where these have been sanded under the clip.  For a more uniform appearance, block it off with masking tape, or sand the whole thing.

This is a Lawman and not the Recon 1, but this is what the coating looks like after 5 minutes of cutting sod.  Note the sick mirrored edge - Powernoodle style.
