New Compound Bow

Just got my son his first compound bow today for his birthday,he is looking forward to doing some target shooting when i get some new hay bales. He also got his first Leatherman ( wingman ).He used it to install the arrow holder on the quiver.I will post some pics soon. I have to do some photos as my cabela's charge seclusion should be here on monday.

How old is your son? The shooting sports of any kind are great to teach children of any age proper handling of tools like a Bow or firearm.

A bow is a great present for a kid, as is a decent multitool.  The Wingman is an excellent choice for a first tool.

Thanks guys, he is 8.I have been frowned upon for giving such gifts, i feel it is important to learn how to handle a knife at an early age. i teach him how to handle it properly.As far as the bow goes he only uses it when i am around. He had a party over the weekend with his friends and out of all the gifts he received he had the biggest reaction to the LM. This weekend we will shoot the bow when i get a hay bail from agway. Hey Chako where can i fing that MT?

A kid exposed to knives, guns, multitools, bows etc will never have that exhilaration of doing something they aren't supposed to be doing with them, and they probably won't make mistakes with them since they've been trained to handle them properly.

While some people may get upset with you, just remember that it's your kid and your choice how to raise them.  As your son gets older and their kids get arrested or injured, we'll see who has the last laugh!

When I was at SHOT last month I got talking o a guy who hosted an outdoors show for a while.  Now, I assume he feels much the same way and is somewhat biased towards the pro-gun side of things.  I also have no idea how accurate this is, or whether it's a myth, but it seems to me that it would be an interesting experiment, and if anyone knows anything about it, I'd love to see or read the original findings.

Supposedly what happened was that some organization did an experiment where they introduced a bunch of children into a room with a toy box full of different things for kids to play with.  Inside the toybox was also a gun.  This guy was telling me that 100% of kids raised in homes with guns didn't touch the one in the toybox but instead dropped what they were doing and went and told an adult, while the kids who came from homes where there were either no guns or they weren't exposed to them picked up the guns and either looked at them or played with them.

Again, I can't comment on the numbers and/or validity of the above story, but I would certainly like to see the results if such an experiment were done.
