Victorinox Warranty SAK's
on: February 22, 2012, 08:15:15 AM
Well I sent off 4 classics for broken internal springs back on November 23rd of last year. The package arrived middle of last week so almost 3 months turn around. Seems kind of a long wait but it was the holiday season and I was not really in any rush anyway.

I have sent in classics before for this same repair and usually they replace the knives with new ones in the retail boxes in about 2 months if it is not the holiday season. Well something was different this time. They got all the colors right and even matched up a couple of those older Signature I scales. However, 2 of the knives came back with the Emergency style main blade! How cool is that! As a collector of 58mm models I am really digging this! The knives came packaged 2 up in a small zip lock baggie instead of the retail boxes.

Here are a few photos.

Very nice! I really like those colors.

By the way what did you ask them (specifically)? Did they fix them for free?
I have a couple of SAKs that I would like to send in for repairs  and I am not sure how to do so.
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

Well, over here on the North America side the official warranty instructions now include a sheet which you fill out with the details about what is wrong or needs to be fixed and what if anything else will be done. Here is the link to that form. Repair Request Form

These classics were repaired/replaced for free but....

In the past years I have not seen this form before. I just sent in a short note what was wrong. I have had to pay before for repairs to knives that were not covered under the warranty. I have not sent in more than about 4-5 knives per year for maybe the last 5 years, mostly 58mm models but a couple were 91mm models. The larger models were always repaired with only the new parts as needed to take care of the warranty only. Like I had sent in a Super Tinker for a broken can opener which they fixed with a new part but they did nothing about the main blade which showed some scarring from being resharpened many times. It did come with new scales and inserts though.

That's a good haul there!  I sent in a Classic with an emergency blade once and got a regular Classic back.  I wasn't happy about losing it, but since it's a free service I didn't complain too much.  Besides, most people would have been happy as anything to have a brand new knife to replace an old worn one.

Glad to hear it worked out well for you!

Those are some nice colors :tu:

My experience with Vic in the States is that if I have ever had a tool with a manufacturer's defect (bad back spring, loose scales, etc...) that they send me a NIB one. With tools that I have smurfed up, or worn out, they charge $5.00 per tool for repair/replacement.

The last lot was 4 Classics (two red, two black) that I had sent in the first week in January and just got back yesterday. They came back as bulk packaged new units packed in the little zip lock bags. Watching one of the latest Vic factory videos, it seems that the Classics are all produce by machines now, so I'm thinking that they treat broken ones as disposable.

Anyway, I've found that the average turn around time for warranty in the US is 6 to 8 weeks. 6 weeks (or a little less) in the fall and winter, 8 weeks (or a little more) during the Holidays and summer months.

That is good to know.  :salute: I have several 91mm SAK's with over sharpened blades or other damaged tools not under warranty. The last time I had to pay for a repair it cost me way more than that! :-\

Overall, I am very happy with Victorinox NA warranty service.  :tu: :tu:

They have done very well by me :tu: Although, the long turn around time makes my OCD act up and I find myself hoarding backup tools so I can be sure of not being without :-[
