iPad - 3rd Generation
on: March 17, 2012, 02:07:44 PM
Well it happened... Apple got me to buy one of their products.

The Latest iPad... in Black....  It's very nice, but since I have not used Apple products for more than 30 years, I have a bit of learning to do.  Seems really nice and I'm glad I got it.

Still lovin' the Amazon Fire though... it has a nice form factor for doing simple stuff like email, ebay, amazon, etc.  It needs, bluetooth, and cellular to really kick butt in the next release.

I will likely be converting soon to Apple products for work reasons, and one of the items in the pipeline is a new iPad so we can manage reports in odd places.  Ideally Android provides a better platform for us but since my boss has converted to Mac, and there's the benefit of a lot more aftermarket accessories for the iPad than most Android devices seeing as how it's a much bigger market- after all, you make one new case for millions of iPad owners or you make one case for each Android device out there.

Anyways, I will be interested to hear your thoughts on it.  I do admit that the iPad is a pretty sweet device though.

So far after spending maybe 4 hours on it... I think it really is fantastic!

There are still many little things to get use to but for the most part it looks like a real winner to me. The screen really is beautiful.

I have not tried it on cellular yet, I went with Verizon for that, but that is also new to me as I really like international communications standards and so Verizon tech and limited freq. in the iPad make this US only I'm afraid for cellular. The AT&T version may be better internationally. Luckily the iPad is quite good on wifi and one can use local cellular hotspot technology if needed. So solutions exist and I decided to go for the best solution where it will be used most.

Camera appears amazing... Wish Safari browser supported local file browsing so I could upload an example.

Battery life so far seems very impressive, better that my Amazon Fire I believe.

Really wish the virtual keyboard included numerics on long-press like the Fire. I like many features of the Android keyboard, and many of the Apple. If I could merge the two I!d be in heaven.

I'm so glad I got distracted from getting the iPad2, because when this was announced I had already done all my research and knew that this was the one dispite all the new fancy Android models out the and soon to be released ones.

Not much else to say right now except it works well with Multitool.org other than the local file attachments.

No, I don't understand all the queuing nonsense. I just ordered it on line and waited for Fed-Ex to bring it to me.  Luckily I was busy working so I was not on pins and needles waiting for it as it took them until 2:30pm to arrive. I was not able to start playing with it until 5pm or so...

one of my gripes with the ipad2 is the poor quality camera, other then that im fairly happy with it. WARNING you dont realise how much your use it or what for till you actually get one for yourself

My father bought an iPad- he was supposed to come visit me a couple of years ago but he accidentally broke his ankle a few weeks before he was supposed to come and he couldn't travel that way, so instead he stayed home and bought an iPad.  Then he actually came out to visit us last year and on his way home he gave his iPad to my nephews and bought an iPad2.  So, I had to have some fun at his expense with the iPad3.

He lives in a town so small that it couldn't support two coffee shops.  One went out of business, as did a small McDonalds, a part time Dairy Queen and the bar with the dock in the back so you could bring your boat there.  One enterprising couple opened a combination technlogy/pet shop called Compupets.  It's also gone under, but I still like to have fun with him, so I called him and asked if he'd lined up all night at Compupets to get the new iPad.  He just laughed, because if the place even still existed they wouldn't have had anything like that anyway!  :D

BTW, my parents are huge tablet people.  Dad's on his second iPad (and I imagine the iPad3 will show up sooner or later) while my Mom usually uses her Samsung Galaxy Tab, although since it's also their internet source they also have a Blackberry Playbook in case Mom goes out without Dad.  They also have a few ereaders kicking around.  Dad won't budge from the iPad, Mom won't leave Android, so it's kind of funny!

Compupets rocked! lol.  I didnt live there when that store was around though.  I miss the bar with dock tough... we used to canoe there from the highschool.  I wont tell my son we used to drink and canoe though, but it was cool.

Yeah, the year I lived there I went to the Riverside more than a few times, although I never took a boat there.  I just thought it was neat that you could!  I don't think I ever saw Compupets myself.  I always wondered what happened if someone went in looking for a mouse....

I bought my wife the Ipad2 last year along with a leather SaddleBack case for it, and she loves it, I only was using a little 7" tablet, but since the the 3rd came out and they said that the 2nd was going to drop in price i started looking, cause i was squinting trying to read on the forum, well needless to say i bought one from Apple, but i got a Refurbished one. i didn't need anything fancy, but when it came in it was as if it was new, notta thing wrong, funny thing was i ordered a case, just a crappy $20 one off Amazon, and the wife ended up giving me the one i bought her from Saddleback, lol, hey im not going to complain! shipping was amazing, it said it was going to be 2days, yet it was here the next day, i was shocked. i handed it to the wife and she played with it, to see if there were any flaws, nothing so she started to set it all up, besides programs and cover you couldn't tell the diff between hers and mine..  JR
