Sodbuster Jr angle question

Earlier this week I received my Lansky sharpening system, and I love it.  I've been playing with it a bit, and managed to get even a cheapy no-name blade razor sharp.  I need to put a new edge on my CV Sodbuster Jr.  This is my work knife, and sees a lot of box busting, cutting vinyl wallpaper, etc.  I was thinking about redoing the edge at a 30⁰ angle. Any opinions?

I'd still do 20. That is what I always use and it seems to remain sharp for a fair amount of time. BTW just for you to  , here is a few of my custom soddie jrs.

I think 30 degrees sounds fine. Some research was performed on old Norwegian knives (“tolleknivar”, I refuse calling a tollekniv a puukko) to see what edge andle the oldtimers preferred, and it seemed 27-28 degrees inclusive was the common preference. These are relatively thin blades of primitive carbon steel, so I think the comparison with a Sodbuster in CV has some relevance.

I think I'm going to redo the edge to 30⁰ and give it a shot.

Yeah, give 30 a try, if it rolls on you, or doesn't perform well just go to 40. That's kind of the fun, finding what works best for you.

I'd use 40, IIRC case harden their steel to mid 50s only.

Well, I redid the edge to 30⁰ the other day, surprisingly much easier than I thought it would be with the Lansky.  So far it's held up great tearing up packaging, and cutting some samples out of a commercial wallpaper book today.  Even after all that it had no problem leaving a nice clean cut......in my finger.   Looks like it's a winner!
